Help New to Android with a new X10

Hi all, got an X10 yesterday and was quite impressed (even worked out how to make a call eventually) until I went to upgrade it as suggested by the PC companion. It all went wrong, lost my contacts blah blah. Was looking for help with several things and Google just kept bringing up these forums, bit like the x-files, the answer is out there! Still haven't sorted it but there's some good advice on here and hopefully I'll be able to pass this on to other sufferers! Cheers for the help...

yeah, luckily i had them synched with outlook on my old phone so I downloaded my phone explorer and imported them using that, success. Turns out that before you backup, before you upgrade, you should update the restore/backup app to the latest version as the 1.6 isn't compatiblewith the 2.1 version therefore the contacts don't restore, or something like that!? Either way, you don't find this out until it is too late!!! Top tip is to export contacts to the SD card from the phonebook page before you upgrade.

Hi guys, am new here. I just do not know where to elevate my problem with xperia x10. I just bought one and when I tried to explore the phone, it will hang every after five (5) minutes. The home and back key do not function anymore. I can no longer get out from any application. I have yet to refer my phone to Sony Ericson Maintenance. I do not know if my phone is really defective.

Any gentle advice here. thank you

First thing to get out of the way, do you have a silicone case on the phone... if so remove it and see if you are still having a problem as sometimes the case can touch the side buttons and play havoc with the phone functionality.

I think your next choice should be to run a repair using Sony Ericsson Update Service

Sony Ericsson - Support - Phones - Topic - Updateserviceapplication - Xperia? X10

This will wipe your phone back to factory settings so be sure to back up or sync your contacts elsewhere. If it is a software problem this should resolve it.

If you are still having a problem then get it looked at either by a Sony Ericsson repair centre or via your carrier / retailer.

I am new to the X10, almost, it is suppose to arrive on Tuesday :D I am also new to Android, coming from a Blackberry. I assume it will still have 1.6 on it, so I would like to upgrade to 2.1 before loading contact or downloading anything from the market, etc.

When I first start up the device, will it ask me to upgrade or is that something I need to do manually?

Any other tips for a newbee?

TIA
