Is there an app that...

Get Setting Profiles Lite and set a rule based on when you're connected to your home wifi, the pattern unlock is off.

That's what I do :)

I have other profiles too, but you have to get the pro version to do more than one rule.

My phone is unlocked when I have GPS on and being on a charger in the car. Unlock pattern turns back on when I'm at work based on GPS coordinates. Lots of things you can do.

Tasker does the same thing, and more, but is more complex. So, depending on your techi-ness, you might like Tasker better.

If I had to do over, I would get Tasker. But Setting Profiles is solid for what I need. I just like programming stuff and I think Tasker would let me do more.

Try this to get you started:

Profiles tab:
-Menu > New Profile > name it "Sleep"
-Click Ok. This will take you to settings
-If you have home wifi, Star and Check Wifi -- This means in this profile, Wifi will always be turned on
-Scroll down to UNLOCK PATTERN
-Star and UN-check Unlock Pattern -- This means in this profile Unlock Pattern is always turned OFF

Since this is a "sleep" profile, you can go through the other settings, like Ringer Volume and turn Notifications all the way down so that it does NOT sound. You can also set incoming call volume to whatever you like.

When done, clcik the back button on the phone and you should see "Sleep" as one of your profiles.

Now you can set a rule to activate it automatically, or, if you prefer, every night before you go to bed, manually click on the profile to actiivate it. If you want to manually activate, you don't need a rule. But let's say you are lazy like me...And you want the Sleep profile to activate between 1130pm and 6am Mon-Fri.

Click the RULES tab
-Click Menu > New Rule
-Click Menu > Add Condition (to set the conditions for the rule to activate)
-Click Time Period > Click the Every Day button and UN-check Every Day and CHECK Mon thru Friday > Click OK to save your selections
-Click the top time and change 12 00 AM to 11 30 PM
-Click the bottom time and change 12 00 AM to 6 00 AM (after you click AM, click back to the 6 so that the AM is accepted into memory; quirk in the software that you have to exit the field for the setting to be accepted).
-Click OK. You'll be back in the Rules screen
-Click Menu > Add Action
-Click Activate Profile
-Select Sleep
-Click Ok
-Back all the way out

Add the Setting Profiles widget to your home screen for easy view to active profiles and access to Setting Profiles.

Now just wait until 1130pm. At that time bar under the widget should change to the color you designated for your Sleep profile and when your phone times out and you reactivate the screen you should get the swipe unlock (if you have Captivate like me, or whatever the default unlock is on your phone, rather than the pattern unlock).

You can also use LockPattern OnOff

It's a widget so it's a one click toggle button that enables/disables the lockscreen.

Thanks!

For newbies this might be the best option. They just have to be disciplined and remember to turn it back on when they want that extra security.

I will be the first to admit that I don't have that kind of discipline. I forget to turn on or turn off. Plus I tie in volume, wifi, gps and other settings to my profiles for convenience. "Set it and forget it!" for me :)

I usually use SwitchPro as well and haven't had a problem with either.

That is, I throw the toggle and both apps have always kept it where it's at until I disable it.

It's free! The worst that happens is it doesn't work the way you want it to and you get rid of it :)

So it sounds to me like the enabling of the screen lock is not a normal behavior for SwitchPro. I wonder what's going on inside my EVO that causes the screen lock disable to enable.

BTW, when it enables, the toggle still shows gray (not white). So it's not an official enable in that the switch got flipped. It's like an internal enable. I usually have to toggle the screen lock ON, then back OFF to fix the problem.

Now is there any reason why i cant get Tasker in the Market?

When Setting Profiles opens up the settings screen, it should be *your phone's* settings screen. So if Unlock Pattern is not there, then your phone doesn't have this setting. Which doesn't sound right.

I don't believe Unlock Pattern is part of SP Lite. SP Lite is fully functional except that you can only activate one Rule at a time.

Have fun!

Install the FastWeb Installer for Appbrain as well. That way when you click on INSTALL on the computer, it will push the app to your phone for you to install.

Not to be argumentative, but it eliminates a single keystroke. I see little use in that unless it does more than that.

Good thread, I'm about to look at Tasker and the other one. The profile settings I had on my BB have me spoiled.

It's easier and faster to surf on your computer than on the phone. However, I still hunt and download about 90% of my apps from the phone. I find it very convenient to link from recommended apps in this forum to Appbrain and then click install if I like the app and comments.

Tasker is pretty deep. I'd like to see more things people do with that program, examples and the like.

My Tasker profiles:

In car (charger and headphone jack plugged in) - media volume and display on full, turn on GPS, open Winamp, answer calls from my better half immediately, pause music playback on receiving a text and read the senders contact name and the text body

Alarm - phone off silent, screen to stay awake (needed for later orientation based tasks), gradually fade in the alarm track, flip the phone facedown snoozes the alarm, when it sounds again flipping it back up does the same (rinse, wash, repeat, as neccessary), unplugging the power turns off the alarm and opens NewsRoom (morning paper delivery!). I love this profile to bits (actually three profiles handle all these actions, but it works seamlessly).

On shutdown puts the phone in silent, 5s after restart it puts it back on - this is to stop the startup sound from going off (sadly isn't able to prevent the shutdown sound)

Don't forget to check out the big Tasker thread here too!
