So this was kinda jacked up

Ok, so I had posted a thread on here a few weeks after I got my EVO. I was asking if there was anywhere on my phone that partially installed apps or anything else that could be taking up internal memory on my phone could be hiding. Because I could never get my internal memory up over 43.2mbs. I had even went as far to delete every app I had on my phone and it still didnt go above 43.2. Im not rooted or any hacks like that. But noone had any answers back then, so I just figured the EVO couldnt have more than a couple apps on it at a time.


Fast foward to this week, I got my wife the white evo. First thing I did after activating it was check the internal memory..It was somewhere around 390mbs. So I tested it and downloaded some bigger apps ,Yahoo w/ video chat,tango..etc... And what do you know, it only took up around 40mbs.

So I finally took the plunge and did a factory reset on my phone...I then checked internal memory and sure enough I had 390mbs. I still have NO IDEA what could've been taking up so much space on my phone..I had no trash emails,all cache files were clear, I went as far as removing all updates to stock apps.

Its just nice to finally have a phone that I can put more than 2 apps on.

Android phones the internal memory is not really important how much of it is being used the important thing is the cycles that the processor operates. That is the more important thing. The 2.2 android froyo system is designed to take as much memory as it needs to. However when that memory is needed by an application at the foreground the phone will free the correct amount of memory and use it to run the application.

I decided against backing up everything though. A fresh start's good once in awhile.

2. I am soooooo surprised that you got your wife and EVO, if you thought that it can only download 2 apps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too, I backed up my contacts. But that was it. I wish I knew what caused it. Because I did go to several different boards and most people just treated me like a I "another android noob" and figured I didnt know what I was talking about.

Well my wife had a phone upgrade available, and I figured if worse came to worse I could always just root both of our phones and get some more space that way. And the big reason was because with my job I can sometimes end up away from home for 2 weeks+ at a time, so having video chat is a must!

and more built in memory.

I was wondering the same thing, it would really fit better in support and troubleshooting

I'm new to the Evo and was having the same problem and my phone was laggy,I took it to sprint And they said text messages were saved on eternal memory not the sd card.

Yeah, believe me I checked all of that stuff. The more research I did about my issue online Ive found that alot of people have had the same issue I had. And everyone has to do the factory restore to get things back in order.

Well the Epic was an "epic failure" I tried both and HTC sense is better than samsungs operating system by a long shot, and there's been many gaming/app complications with Samsung

I've just gotten my replacement Evo (my brother stepped on the screen) and after I was through restoring my apps, the memory went down. I don't have many apps store internally as most are on SD card. But my memory runs down to 190 throughout the day, and stays there, I dont get it. Ive tried everything

Are you talking about the amount of free RAM?

Personally, I never worry or check mine. I just use my phone. If it gets bad (some game running in the background with the web browser and flash and what have you) just check through the in-built task manager as to what's going on a RAMpage. (see what I did there? Did you get it? It's a--.... nevermind...)
