Root SetCPU, Kernels and ROMs

Hey, I was wondering how I'd be able to get my phone running past 1GHz. I've seen pictures of Galaxy S phones going at 1.2 and one at 1.6, but I know nothing about ROMs and Kernels.

Anyone with some spare time care to help? :)

What current speed are you getting when you run Quadrant Standard? If you do want to increase the speed check out this link, its a posting regarding Dirrks D01 overclocking, this should give you about 1.2 or higher. there is an additional lag fix but I don't recall really seeing an improvement

Good luck, if you have questions let us know.

if i were you i would get familiar with all of the root information linked above in Frisco's sticky. if you know nothing about roms and kernels its good to familarize yourself with all the available info out there :) overclock for the sake of speed isnt all there is to make your phone run better and its not best practice to just jump right in (if available)

1.2 is as fast as she goes, the 1.6 was a fake out.

The most popular kernels right now aren't overclocked though, nobody has made OC kernels recently.

well 1.25 is as fast a released kernel went. jt has stated he had 1.3 and then hit a wall. and the vibrant has real 1.3 kernels (from kingklick although he takes off heat governor protection which is....risk) and apparently he has a 1.4 although i dont know if its legit

and i didnt quote it, but the link bezerk put up for the oc voodoo kernels are "old" in development time and not many pepole are running them. also new to kernels + voodoo=danger will robinson :)

Thats not precisely true ;)

yes, saps is the kernel tester extrodinaire (i cant spell) :)

When I'm using Laxfix and SetCPU I'm pushing about 2100-2200. I'll check out the link you gave though :p thanks

Not to push you away from oc and old voodoo but really jts November non oc. Non voodoo kernels are just as good or better than October oc voodoo. Quadrant scores really mean nothing unless comparing 2 of the same t hings and even hen linpack is better or the setcpu long benchmark.
:D
Yes its cool to say u have a 1200 MHz voodoo fascinate we've all been there:cool:

But for real world performance newer=better

Well until voodoo 5

Truer words were never spoken. In reality, a recent nonvoodoo kernel will give your phone the fit and feel substantially [insert word] faster, snappiers, more responsive.
Things change so fast in this game. October was voodoo time, November is whatever we call it, nonvoodoo time. December will likely be voodoo5 time. January will maybe bring some type of soft serve dessert item some people seem to be talking about. But seriously max performance now does rest with a good rom and a good kernel and the best atm are the nonvoodo

I installed sv1200 and my quad score went from 1600 to 1785.
but setcpu still only goes to 1000. Am I not doing something right in setcpu?

i really dont know why you are so set on running ancient kernels, but to each his own.

in setcpu click menu->autodetect speeds then move the slider to 1200. if it doesnt go past 1000 you didnt flash a 1200mhz kernel

The kernel is D012-SV1200 which was put out on OCTOBER 12th. that makes it ancient ?

i know the phone updated cause i got the faster quad score of 1785. Thats a fairly fast Fascinate, right ?

1. with kernel development going on daily, even though its only like 6 weeks ago that is stone age in fascinate time :)

2. quadrant isnt the end all be all when indicating the real world speed of your phone. :)

So after going back & forth with nitsu about whether i did or did not have a over-clocked kernel installed, i found out that i did not. i did download D012_SV1200 but it had went to the download folder on the sdcard and the kernel i thought was D012_SV1200 wasnt. have no clue what it was, I have installed a couple.

Last thought, i thought the "VOODOO DIASABLE" fix of placing a new folder in SDCARD/VOODOO folder was crazy, but thats what ya do. you hear the mech voice saying how is converting / not converting when you do. be sure to re-boot.

You guys working on this stuff are crazy smart ! , no doubt about that!

Thanks to nitsu for keeping me on the right track about this!
