Help Transfering Contacts from iPhone 4 to EVO

I have around 100 contacts and would prefer not to type them all over by hand. Is there a way for me to upoad them to my google account from the iPhone?

I guess I should have mentioned that wasn't an option. The computer that I had synced with was destroyed (dropped off the bus) and junked out under insurance. I don;t believe I can sync to another computer can I?

i dont see why not.

or you can download Google Sync for the iphone, which syncs your contacts with gmail. then when u get the new phone they will sync with it.

You can do Google Sync directly from your iPhone to Google wireless, either 3G or Wifi. This is what you need.

Its not really an app. Its a set of instructions to setup your iPhone to Google Sync. All the ingredients are already in the iPhone, its a matter of entering the right settings. It's surprisingly easy.

Once its done, give it a while so your contact information syncs up to Google. You can go to your browser --- any browser, whether its PC or mobile --- login to your GMail account via web and see if your contacts are uploaded into GMail. Usually its done within 10 to 15 minutes.

If so, login to your EVO with your GMail account. Everything will take care of itself at this point.

Keep the Google Sync on your iPhone. You will see that both your iPhone and EVO will continually sync with each other. Enter a new contact or make changes in one of these phones, the other phone will mirror those changes like magic.

Oh yes, you do. Its quite easy, but you don't do anything on the phone. That's the beauty of it. Completely hands off the phone.

Its done entirely on your PC or Mac browser. No phone USB sync, no use of PC sync software, no cables. Hands off, completely wireless. You have to discard the old crappy way of doing things with a mobile phone that's been falsely educated to you by traditional companies.

All you have to do is login to your GMail account via PC/Mac desktop browser. Once you are logged in, you will see Contacts on the left side. You then edit these contacts by copy and pasting pictures from your PC hard drive into each of these contacts into their empty picture frame.

Done, that's it.

These pictures will automatically sync into your phone contacts through the 3G or wifi connection.

You can edit those pictures anytime on the PC.

Please note these pictures will also be uploaded to any phone, iPhone, Nokia Symbian, Blackberry, whatsoever that has Google Sync working in them. Like the case of our first poster who wants to move his contacts to his EVO. If he changed a portrait of his GMail/phone contact on the desktop browser, the picture will be uploaded to both his EVO and iPhone.


The second option is doing it with their Facebook or Twitter pics. To do this, you must have Facebook for Android installed. You must have Twitter for Android installed. Your Twitter and Facebook accounts must be actively synced. Sometimes, the sync is already built in like Samsung Touchwiz, Motoblur and HTC Sense. You have to activate them, like Facebook for HTC Sense. Activation is done by entering your Facebook login to the respective app, then configure the sync settings.

You can sync all your Facebook contacts into your phone contact book. Which I don't really recommend but you can do it. Note there is a filter that can display only Facebook contacts that has phone numbers in their info.

Or you can do this.

You go to your phone contacts, then associate that phone contact to their Facebook link. The same process applies to their Twitter account, Plurk account or MySpace account.

Once that is done, their social networking avatars are synced into their phone contact portraits.

Note, if they decided to change their avatars with a new one, their phone picture would automatically update itself to the new avatar.

Upon further inspection this just seems to get you exchange contacts onto your iphone. It doesn't seem to actually take your iPhone contacts and import them into exchange

Right now, I got an iPod Touch that is totally Google Syncing with a number of Android phones, totally replicating phone book contacts, calendars and contact portraits.

Well it certainly isn;t working for me. The iPhone is pulling from google contacts, but not the other way around

Be sure you have turned on IMAP settings in your gmail account online and that the outgoing SMTP server is correct on the iPhone. If the incoming settings are correct but the outgoing settings are wrong you will be able to download but uploads will not function.

Once set properly it definitely works great, use it between my iPhone and my wife's as a calendar sharing utility.

Everything is correct. The calendar works just fine. What is not working is the contacts in the actual address book of the iPhone. In any case, I just pulled the data off the iphone on another computer and imported it that way.

I transfered my contacts via the idrive lite app from my iPhone 4 to my EVO. The app is available in both the app store and Android market. I backed up my contacts on the iPhone app then downloaded them on the EVO with the same android app. Contacts are stored in "the Cloud".
