Walking the dog....phone fell.....shattered.

I was walking my dog and he almost slipped, all the while I happened to be taking my phone out of my pocket and boom!, fell and now the screen is shattered. Its a Samsung Captivate, it seems to work just the screen is shattered....its done. Literally.

wtf do I do now??? I already signed a 2 year contract with ATT, my mom isnt into smart phones and stuff, is it possible to use her upgrade and get a new phone? Then she can cancel the Data Plan? I share a family plan with her, only thing I can think of....

This is unfortunate. I'm pretty sure you may be able to use her upgrade, but of course if you have insurance go that route. You should maybe look into adding a rider to your (or your parents) homeowners or renters insurance, if you have it. They can be much more affordable and cover more. The key is to make sure the deductible is acceptable.

This is why seemingly over-board cases, like the one I have on mine, are ever so needed. On top of making it more comfortable to hold, I can use it in almost literally any situation (except in my secret base at the bottom of the Marianna Trench, I need a waterproof case for that) and feel completely at ease that my phone's not going to become side-walk pizza before lunch.

I have done this several times. I used my dad's indifference to upgrade "him" so to replace lost,stolen,and just worn out phones of others in the family. You do not even need to tell AT&T of your pemuting the SIMs between handsets. Just hope that "mom" doesnt come to need a basic phone, but then there is always EBAY for the low end. For that matter check on used Captivates on EBAY; "used" to avoid new contract requirements, or full hardware pricing.

Samsung will replace it for $162 and they'll pay for 2day shipping to them and back to you. Takes about a week and a half. There are also $90 screens you can buy and install yourself. The better ones come with tools and instructions. Your phone isn't "done", you just have to invest more into it. Sucks, but there are options.

I agree, you can usually use someones update relatively easily. I can't speak specifically for att since I just switched, but when I was on sprint it was fairly easy to use my fathers upgrade for myself, just had to threaten to leave the company. They will basically do anything for you if you say you're going to leave.

That's a common response to "oops, my gorilla glass broke", but it's not really appropriate. Even so-called "bullet proof" vests aren't really bullet proof. You still get ****ed up.

But if something is called gorilla glass and they use it for a phone that has no buttons and you sign onto a two year contract with, you should be able to drop it from your hand to the floor without it shattering. I've dropped many glass things that never shattered. I've dropped a crystal glass that never shattered. But when I dropped my phone while trying to put it in my pocket, it did just that.

But if you are going to call something "gorilla glass" then maybe you should be able to drop it from under 2 feet without having it shatter like safety glass.

yeah,i just wish i was videotaped throwing my phone in the air,would have been cool to see the durability of this phone,,but i know sheet happens,drop from 2-3 feet and your shit is shattered,,i think samsang is coming out with unbreakable S.amoleds,..i know i sure need it,lol

Are you being serious? They offer insurance for a reason. Gorilla Glass is used to reduce scratches, not keep it from shattering after a fall to pavement.

I honestly think Insurance is a big rip off. For the total amount of money you pay in 2 years, you can prolly get a next gen phone for contract price and still have some money left over.

My two cents: Go with a good body glove + invisible shield to protect your phone. Not only it saves your phone from drops, it also prevent scratches on your phone for less money than insurance in the long run.

My two cents: Go with a good body glove + invisible shield to protect your phone. Not only it saves your phone from drops, it also prevent scratches on your phone for less money than insurance in the long run.

I paid a one time $70 payment for one year of insurance, and my deductible is $75. If you're still in contract, you can't get a next-gen phone for contract price. Not to mention, you can file two claims every year. So, that's $1200 worth of devices for about $225.

Why would I bullshit you? I'm the one who had to pay the money. I was walking back to the bus station in DC and dropped it on the sidewalk. Do you think that's my cover story for what really happened when I was in a gunfight with the FBI and the gorilla glass caught the bullet but it was just too much stress and the screen cracked, but I don't want to tell you that because I'm a double-secret agent and don't want to jeopardize my secret identity so I came up with the irrefutable "dropped it in DC" cover story?
