Okay.... don't know if this has been brought up before, but........ I changed the backround on my DI to the HTC provided black wallpaper (think it has some silver in it). Now my battery life has been extended almost 3 hours with the same usage. I have made no other changes to the DI......

That has been brought up before. But it's always a good thing to mention.

However, your mileage may vary. Depending on how you much time you spend in the homescreen.

Yea, I've found that a black or darker wallpaper saves some battery life. The only problem is, the screen is so gorgeous you want colors on it!

I like darker backgrounds anyway on it. Since we have such a high contrast ratio, we might as well show it off...
(FYI my favorite wallpaper is Starfield, although Chinese Ink Art is definitely up there as well).

Another interesting find I had was the utilization of a BB charger on my DI. I find this charge lasts longer as well. While this may be a damaging the battery in the long run due to amperage it works right now. Plus, I can just go to VZW to swap out the battery @ no charge if it's less than a year!

Don't worry about damage, you can't damage a battery by charging slower... the blackberry has a smaller Ma rating than the 1000 Milli amp (1A) HTC charger.
I too find a better, longer lasting charge by slow charging with a 500Ma charger or anything with less current than the HTC "fast" charger.:D

And even it it was higher current, it wouldn't damage anything. No matter how much more current the charger provides, the phone would still only draw 1A (or .5A depending on how the plug was soldered).

White color on the AMOLED consumes more power. So things like web surfing where white is the predominant color will eat battery life. Unless you are spending a ton of time on your home screens a light vs. dark wallpaper should be generally negligible.

I have wondered recently if this is why they changed the interface of the YouTube app to black.

I believe the hardware version 0002 is the AMOLED screen and 0003 is the SLCD screen

correct.
