Xperia X10 Mini Pro Queries

Hi,
Got my SE Xperia Mini Pro last weekend. This week's been pretty interesting with some delightful discoveries, and a few rude shocks too.

I've a few queries about my Mini Pro.

  1. Is the battery life for the mini pro generally this sad? Or is it just my piece that's rubbish? I've noticed that my battery charges pretty fast. Sadly, it drains just as quickly. I'm yet to do a proper test on how long it lasts, as I haven't been able to keep my hands off my phone :) I'd hazard a guess that the battery, by regular use, wouldn't last 12 hours! I'd charged my phone fully last night. I woke up 8 hours later to see the battery indicator show 80%. 20% discharge for doing nothing? Seriously?
  2. I downloaded the Bluetooth File Transfer app, and I'm now able to send files via Bluetooth. Still haven't figured out how to receive files though. Help!
  3. How do I send a contact from my phone to another phone?
  4. Why would Sony Ericsson not have digital zoom on it's camera?!

More questions later! :D

Hi all.
I do not have a mini pro but i do have a xperia x10.
First the battery problem. I think with all smart phones we tend to use our devices more like a multi media device rather than just a phone ie surfing the net, watching tv playing with apps etc, using our bright screens 24/7 and this will drain the battery. One solution is have a look on ebay for a high power battery. I did see a docking station with a high power spare battery for about

Strangely enough I remember reading all the battery woes of the x10 mini pro. My partner got it last week though, last Monday and charged it. Didnt charge it again till say, Thursday/Friday. And hasnt charged it again since. While I've charged my full size X10 about 5 times since last Monday :|. My fault for leaving Wifi on though :p.

As for sending a contact...via bluetooth or as an SMS? I needed to download an app to send via SMS.

As for 4, i have no idea :| and dunno bout 2 sorry.

has anyone found a fix for the bluetooth problem on x10 mini pro?
I can send to most phones, but my partner has windows mobile HTC mini, which will not pick anything up through bluetooth file transfer. something about root permission.
I've been looking around trying to find a way to change the root permission but no luck! any thoughts?
oh and yes we can "pair" our devices together but not send files.

1. battery life, everyone i think has this issue... it charges fast and drains fast. learn to manage the power. use the power control widget and data traffic widget. turning off wifi, data traffic, GPS, background data, and reducing the backlight intensity will surely help you improve the battery life. They also say that task killers helps in improving the battery so try downloading task killer app. mine, last for more than 20 hours with typical everyday use like music, few net browsing and some games. although there were rare occasions that the battery seems not to drain faster than the usual (i have'nt figure out the technique) and it lasted for 43 hrs (for the my record) with typical use. I think it happened to me 4 times in my 3 months of use.

2. I do not much to share with the bluetooth function, i dont usually use this feature. one thing i noticed that your phone cannot be detected by other phones even if you are visible. it seems it can only transmit and not to receive. i don't know if it has some thing to do with the bluetooth software version or some kind of protection from bluetooth triggered SW attacks (my opinion only). lets hope this can be addressed after the update.

3. I haven't tried sending contacts to other phones... :)

4. This I do not know the reason... anyway you can zoom the pictures after the photo was taken. :)

Has anyone had any problems with the slide-out keyboard? I flick it out and turn the phone around, the orientation changes but the keyboard is unresponsive and it only lets me use the on-screen keyboard.

I'm wondering if this is a software/settings issue or if my phone is physically broken? And ideas on fixing it? I only got it like 2days ago!

I have installed 2.1 and since it had worked. The out of the blue i tried to send a msg and it stopped working. Ive tried turning it on/off, re-installing update, re-storing settings.....

i suggest bring it back to the vendor, it could be a hardware issue if it keeps happening.

I had the same battery issues when i first got my X10 MP but I found the following actions have meant i'm able to get at least 2 days from it with normal use:

1. Switch off gps
2. Switch off background data
3. switch off wifi
4. switch off bluetooth
5. use the power control widget to switch these on and off as you need them.
6. turn the screen brightness down

If you think you need (or actually need) actions 1-4 switched on all the time you will never get more than about 20hours from the battery, regardless of how much you use the phone.

Also, if you're anything like me when you get a new phone or any other gadget you will use it a lot more to start with but you will soon settle into normal usage that will tell you more accurately what battery life to expect.
