I'm getting sick of my D1 .. its slow, the battery life sucks, and from the looks of it, every other device will be getting gingerbread but the D1. I'm also in the middle of a contract, so I can't upgrade. Is there anything I can do to make my droid an overall better experience?

I actually have. I really don't know the benefits of doing so though.

You mention battery life.. rooting allows you to configure resources all over the device. You can get rid of the bloatware, you can over clock the processor, you can flash custom ROMs which are configured for optimum performance, etc.

I "toggle" root/unroot on my new Fascinate, mainly to test things so I can give more informed response to queries about those things.

This is one fast baby as it is stock, but rooting does allow for other benefits.. we Fascinate users are awaiting Froyo ROMs, as it is. ;)

Droid is already there. You've got it made in the shade.. just have a look at the All Things Root sub-forum for the Droid; tons of great info and ROMs, etc. I'm jealous, coming off the HTC Eris which has all that now, too.
