D1 could possibly get Gingerbread official OTA?

The phone can barely handle froyo without rooting.

so true....I JUST now got Froyo running the way it should have been running from the beginning.

i seriously doubt we will see an official OTA (sorry couldn't read the artical, it was blocked by my work)

but i have confidence that the DEV team will have a workable gingerbread for the D1 shortly after the source is released.

I don't see how you can say that when there are thousands of stock froyo users out there with no problems. My wife and I are not rooted and have zero issues. Both phones are plenty fast and do what they are supposed to do.

Your one of the lucky ones. Read through the threads. Plently of lags, FC's, etc.... with froyo, still like the product, but I don't know if it can handle another major update.

There are also plenty of those same threads from people without froyo and people with froyo that are rooted. As a matter of fact I see many more threads with rooted phones having problems ;)

IMO most of these issues are user related. Just look through the market at all of the highly rated apps and you will always find some idiot saying it doesn't work.

I agree with you and this is the reason I don't root. Still, I am on by 2nd official OTA & with each one my phone gets a little more laggy. The recommended course of action, by memebers of this is forum, to do a factory reset & re-install apps. I don't have the time & I wish Verizon would have planned a better upgrade path.

For Gingerbread to work on the D1, i believe Motorola must officially overclock the CPU. Froyo was really slow on stock CPU speeds for me until i overclocked to 900Mhz. Even then, i still get lags here and there. I dont see Moto officially giving us Gingerbread but either way, someone on XDA will come through with it......
