Root Successful Unrevoked 3.2.1 session?

I just ran through the Unrevoked process, which ended in the software telling me, "This was a triumph". I am, however, unconvinced.

I can not boot into any other recovery than the stock HTC recovery and therefore can not perform a Nand Back up or flash Unrevoked Forever.

I'm running a newer Evo with 2.2, it has hboot 2.02 and is showing S-ON. Is this the problem?

Where do I go from here?

From what I've read, it needs to show S-OFF. Also, if you are running software version 3.30, it cannot be done with Unrevoked.

Ok... My software is 3.26, which unrevoked states it can handle... I'll dig into getting s-off now.

That doesn't make sense.. If you have hboot 2.02 you should have software version 3.30xxxxxxx.

I just double checked. I have hboot 2.02, s-on, and sw vr 3.26...

Ok, now I'm thoroughly confused... When I go to: public:forever [RootWiki]
I see it tells me to root with Unrevoked... which isn't working, presumably because of the S-ON... which can be removed by unrevoked forever, but only after I'm rooted with unrevoked, which isn't working cause of s-on...

i thought
s-off = rooted s-on = not rooted

there is a way to root 2.02 over on xda but I suggest waiting until unrevoked overcomes the hboot 2.02 issue

Did you note your software version BEFORE you ran Unrevoked??? I ask because I wonder if you started with 3.30 and ended up in your current configuration due to Unrevoked getting you partially through the process and then getting hung up due to the S-on issue. Just curious.

Does your camera work? The reason I ask is because the new evos have different camera hardware that needs s/w 3.30 in order to work.

EDIT:
And if it does work then I would assume the 2.02 hboot is not dependant on s/w version 3.30.

Sorry, I did not note my sw vr before using unrevoked. The camera does work. I just tested it. One troubling thing happened this weekend, though. I had around 130 images on the SD card and when I looked again, I had lost between 60 and 70 of them. Totally random selection, not at all dependant on age or folder or anything. I think its just a random, unrepeatable glitch, but it was a lame one...

Well if your camera works with the current s/w then thats what it was shipped with. Until now I always assumed hboot 2.02 and 3.30 went hand in hand. Guess I was wrong!

The missing images sounds like it might be an issue with the SD card...

Also FYI: this evo is hw vr 0003 and the sw reads 3.29.651.5 after an update.

That's strange that your camera still works. If you have hboot 2.02, you definitely had 3.30, and the camera shouldn't work with anything before that. I searched around a bit, and it sounds like you're not the only one that had unrevoked knock you back to 3.26 somehow if you have 2.02 hboot. An RUU should get you back to where you should be, but I'm not sure what all unrevoked did. The fact that you didn't get s-off (since you can't with unrevoked) means that you should be ok. Here's the RUU:

This looks to be a Hardware/Software conflict.

From what I am gathering, the new Builds have a few tweaks in the Hardware and the Software is being designed with that in mind. Our older EVOs are getting the new updates and the they are not working properly.

This is just speculation though.

The newer Evos have some different parts in them, and require different software. It should be backwards compatible. a) Last I heard they were not sending out the 3.30 updates OTA to those with older phones, only those with newer ones. b) What makes you say 3.30 updates aren't working on older phones? Most rom developers have started using 3.30, there is no conclusive evidence that anything is wrong.

if you had 3.30 you have 2.02 yes....but there hasn't been any evidence that it wasn't possible to have a combination of something else and 2.02 via some sort of update or who knows what


the fact remains...OP has 2.02 hboot and rooting will take the hboot 2.02 method listed on xda, or patience for unrevoked to incorporate the new exploit they supposedly found last week

I guess we won't know unless we hear from Sprint or HTC. I guess it is starting to look that way, though, isn't it. Weird.

Sorry, you have hboot 2.02. You can't use unrevoked. There is a method of rooting it that you can find on xda, but I don't recommend it. Your best bet is to wait for unrevoked to get an update.

ugly grey arc as in...the dock on the sense launcher? You can always replace the sense launcher with something else. You'll lose the HTC widgets, but you can do a lot of customization without rooting.

Yeah, I have done some different home replacement apps. Nothing seems to transition as smooth as sense though, plus I like the sense widgets more than any of the ones that come with launcher pro or any of the others.

My main reason for wanting root is the rather terrible battery life. I went from CM6 with the batt tweak on my Hero, to a stock EVO. The difference is ridiculous...
