Should I use my 2 year upgrade on Droid X (from Droid 1) or wait?

I currently have a rooted Droid 1 and it runs just fine at 1.2 ghz with Bugless Beast. However, I am starting to get anxious for a new phone and my upgrade will be ready in early December. I have been doing a little research and have not found anything that seems to be miles ahead of the droid x in the near future. I want the best phone on the market and as of right now I feel that is the droid x (sorry iphone). Would you guys say it is worth it to use my upgrade now and get the X or does anyone have an estimate as to when the next big thing will be coming? (I prefer a droid phone however the rumors of samsung's 2 ghz phone seem promising). Please help me with my decision!

Also, I do plan on rooting whatever phone I get, and the X seems to be a growing community apart from the original droid...

What is the future of the X? will it be getting 3.0 or even something more powerful down the road?

IMO, if your D1 is running great with the specs you stated, you're not going to get much more out of the X but a bigger screen and maybe a few more MHz in proc speed. So unless you're really tired of that thick phone in your pocket, I'd hold off till spring for 4G and maybe one of the new Tegra2 procs. Don't get me wrong, I love my DX, I just don't think you'll get the bang for your buck.

if i were you i'd wait for the tegra 2 phones coming out starting late january. AT&T is confirmed to get the Motorola Olympus, which is the successor to the Droid X. I did a little write up here about it. Its going to be on AT&T, but there should be a Verizon equivalent, hopefully that is, around the same time.

i assure you, once you settle in with any of the current phones now, and see all dual core powered phones out in early 2011, you're gonna wish you waited.

my answer: wait for the dual core phones.

I LOVE my DX....but I'd also suggest waiting another month or two. The Incredible HD has me interested, personally. I just think there are too many nice options quickly approaching. I'm not saying a DX wouldn't still be a nice option...but since it's not much more of a wait, I'd hold off to make sure you're happy with your selection :)

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I am tempted to move up to other phones from the Droid X that I currently own (I bought it off contract and have an upgrade I can use at the end of the month), but can't find anything that would make me miss out on what's coming out early 2011. I live in Orlando and LTE is supposed to hit here when they first roll it out, so I'd hate to use my upgrade for a device that won't be able to take advantage of LTE.

Of course, some people it's a little different as LTE may not be in their area for a while. The Droid X is a great phone and I think it was the perfect phone for me to get acquainted with Android, but at this point waiting for some LTE devices may be the best route to take.

I paid full price for my X. I am getting an annual upgrade soon, but I can get an upgrade 12.10 so I keep upgrade until after CES. I love electronics, but i hate waiting!!

I just upgraded from a D1 to the DX this week, I used my upgrade but I didn't have to pay for the phone. Now I'm wondering if i made a mistake. All this talk about these new phones supposedly coming out are making me think again. But what phones are actually confirmed for Verizon that are going blow the DX out of the water? I mean the DX has some pretty good specs and features. I don't see these new VZW phones coming out having a 5" screen, etc. I have 8gb internal, a 32gb sdcard, 8mp camera, overclocked processor, etc. on my DX and I think that's as good as its going to get for a while...Unless VZW has a phone coming out that has 16gb internal memory, includes a 32gb sdcard, 5" screen, 1GB ROM/RAM, 10MP camera, 5MP front facing camera, etc. I think people overreact with this new phones.

I paid full price too. I didnt know if I was gonna keep it or not. I did that so I could still have an upgrade in Apr of next year. I know from this experience I will be doing 1 year contracts from now on.

If you are happy with the upgrade, then no you did not make a mistake by doing so.

I too upgraded from a D1 to DX ( On Nov 11th) Yeah there maybe lot of cool phones coming, but when I was told Q2 of 2011 for an LTE phone

I got my DX because my wife wanted a better phone so she is getting my D1. I really liked my D1 but the DX is easier for me to use for web, email etc due to the size.

I don't regret my decision to get the DX now..

budmonster - I completely agree with everything you said. Realistically, these upcoming phones will only be better when honeycomb hits. The processor in the droidx is obviously capable of doing similar speeds to the Tegras, and we are already seeing stable speeds of 1.4ghz+ (with some claiming close to 2ghz). The camera is sick, and until sony unleashes their 10mp+ cameras in their phones I doubt we'll see those hit any other phones until summer of 2011...only thing I would consider is the htc merge...otherwise I think the droidx will still be number for the holidays and into next summer

i would do what i did and buy a x on ebay and save your upgrade. you can use the x for a couple of months and sale it for nearly what you gave for it when it is upgrade time!

you bought a used DX on ebay? how much?

if it doesnt work can you return it? i dont know how ebay policies work. i always thought there were no refunds on certain items, like used electronics.

i bought a new inbox device for 400. used they bring 350+. if a problem arises ebay asks you contact the saler and if you cant work out a resolution, ebay will get involved and reimburse you for your total spent including shipping. just make sure to ask the saler for the esn number as a precautiionary measure and check it with vzw before bidding.... wait, even better read:

man i wish i had 400 to drop or i would do it to save my upgrade. but if some phone comes out for vzw that blows the socks of the DX, ill just sell my dx, pay the rest and get that phone. but i doubt a phone worthy enough to give up my DX will be coming out anytime soon.
