Hmm... All of the text messages have gone from my DHD.

Last night they were all there, this morning nothing. At first I thought it was just slow to load them, it sometimes happens & you wait for a couple of seconds then they all appear. But not today.

I updated my firmware yesterday twice - first to 1.32.405.3 and then to 1.32.405.6 - but they were definitely there after the updates.

I've seen some other threads with the same issue on other phones but they're all at least a few months old.

htcsense.com has, disaapointingly, not got all of my messages either. It seems to have most of them (including the last one I sent) but somehow is missing some in between.

Anyone else had this problem?

No solution I'm afraid, just had to get over it & carry on.

It's a shame the htcsense thing doesn't feature a 2-way sync, seems odd that you can text from it & have that copied to the phone but not restore your SMS from it when things go toys up.

Also odd that some texts don't appear on sense at all.

If you find anything out please let me know!

Was it after an update?

It's happened again this morning! This is becoming a worry.

Nothing odd hapened last night - no updates, no dead battery, no nothing. Yet this morning I wake up to no SMS on my phone at all. All gone.

I definitely have not ticked the option to remove message after a certain limit.

I checked in the Menu->Settings->Applications and the 'Messages' app has stored 828kB of data. This makes me think the messages are still stored somewhere.

I cleared the cache (not the data), force closed but still nothing.

I restarted the phone, but they're still missing.

htcsense.com seems to have most of them this time round, but as far as I know that's a one-way sync to the 'cloud' and you can't pull them back to the phone, right?

Does anyone know how to find this 828kB file and see what's in it?

So, it seems that your HTCsense is synching both ways then? Mine didn't do that, although pretty much everything on HTCsense site itself seems to work fine for me. Odd that it put them back & removed them again for you! Mine didn't return on either occasion, just left with no text/SMS.

I've just checked on sense.com again and guess what? Everything before Monday has disappeared now! D'oh!

Do you think you could let me know how much data your Messages app has used? If you go to Menu->Settings->Applications->Manage->All & scroll down to messages. To the right of Messages (or if you click on it) you should see the data usage. Mine's at 832kB despite having virtually no messages stored now.

I wondered if this indicates that the data is still around, or if this is the size of the app itself. Also, having looked at the permissions for that app I wonder if it is the SMS app, since it mentiones gMail as well as SMS/MMS in its permissions...

Mine is at 828KB so probably not the messages, just an app. I submitted a support request to HTC but nothing back as yet.

I have another reply:

"Thank you for contacting us. In regards to your enquiry, I can help you with that.

Weather they were deleted or just dissapeared, unless you synchronized your text messages through a third party application from either the market or internet itself, they are not recoverable.
If they are gone, they are gone.

I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required"

Not quite what I expected - have they ever heard of customer service?!

I guess what they're saying is that if you want the assurance that you won't lose any of your messages etc. then you must backup as you can't expect your settings/content/messages/contacts to be safe on the phone as it may just decide to get rid of them for a laugh.

Sounds a bit like the old Microsoft attitude.

I submitted an issue with HTC support about my sms messages disappearing on the 31/Dec, got a call back today from them claiming total surprise that the HTC Desire HD has this issue because it is already on android 2.2!

I told the support rep to go and have a fast Google search to see how wrong he is and to point out that other owners of the phone have already complaint to them too.

He said he will do so and asked if he can help with any other issues..

Well, that was such a waste of time! doing backups everyday now.. though honestly, if a phone can't even keep my messages intact then what is the point of it?!

My phone is a Vodafone branded one... in Australia .......

Desire Z, 1 month young, yesterday as usual on charger... hear incoming message... open... and look at a blanc screen! ALL sms gone %$@# Now I've had quite a few units/phones but never experienced this. After some Google I see similar issues all over the globe, but haven't find a reaction/solution from HTC yet!! Suggestions to install SMS-backup-apps are well meant, but I'm sorry, do I now have to make a backup of a backup?! HTC??? where is your solution to this?!

This has just happened to me....am gutted.
Does anyone know of a way to download message threads on to a PC? HTC weren't much help when I asked.
I also have constant problems with receiving mail...accessing mail...sending mail...sometimes it works, sometimes not - no consistancy. Hugely irritating.
