Root voodoo5 kernels are here

I was able to successfully disable voodoo without a problem earlier just to make sure I could. One good thing about getting irc releases the next morning is its been out for a few hours and errors are usually noted by then: ) very good point though saps for those who have never used voodoo or are relatively inexperienced should definitely proceed with extreme caution. A lot of us will flash anything and everything but those of us that do are reasonably confident we can recover our phones no matter what happens.

Really many of those out there would probably be better off waiting til a fully stable voodoo is out or maybe just avoiding it all together.

Personally m fine using buggy versions or alpha/beta releases but that's obviously not for everyone: )

yeah i flashed 11/23 looks good so far in my hour with it.

have yet to flash jts 0.6 rom as i didnt want to deal with disabling voodoo this morning :)
You could just edit the kernel files out of the zip, or replace them with the 11/23 test kernel. Not sure if you have to delete the manifest and re-sign, but that's pretty easy.

What's new in .6 anyway? I found .5 a bit too clean, but now that I've added back what I want, I doubt I'll change for a while.

If I was at a computer I'd rip the kernel out and download the Tom but I'm on strip for work so phone only ATM :)

Absolutely, as we know, no one ever uses Clockwork just once, its an addiction.
But as you also notice there are more and more "new" handles in IRC these days, most of whom I dont know but a few I recognize from this place. There is far and away a lot of monkey see monkey do in this game now.
This is an in general comment not directed at any individual so please dont take this personally, while I am more than willing to answer any and all PM's either here or at IRC, there is only so much time I can and do devote it this stuff. I think I can speak for nitsuj17, and countless others who we all recognize as the good to people when we need help that we all really like helping others overcome obstacles and challenges. Because of that however, it pains me to find 4 PM's which read nearly the same or to be on IRC and have 3 PM windows going at once. Not everything can be copy and pasted ;) sometime individual problems need individual solutions and advice. So perhaps consider this an open apology to all who have PM'd me and maybe I gave an insufficient answer or even didnt answer at all. Im got just a wee bit of real life stuff competing for my attention too. But suppose everyone does.

Man I feel myself looking for a soapbox now:p

The two differences for 6 are 1] there is no kernel inside, you will keep whatever you have previously and 2] there is no BLN, apparently the author of BLN now has a market app for BLN, as jt to not use it and so he didnt

I disabled it this morning in order to flash Clean .6 and switch to the 11/23 voodoo. Things went crazy and I got FC hell but I was able to delete disable_lagfix via adb, luckily I had debugging enabled. Then just boot back into recovery and flash the rom and newer voodoo now everything is fine.

Oh.... well...... that makes me feel better:rolleyes::D
I swear if it doesn't disable its gone.

This is one problem I see with the IRC thing. We need to see more of it moved to the forums once something is released. It should be posted with documentation and with all the links needed (if possible).

It would save you guys tons of repeat questions and make the new comers feel better as they (as well as me) generally want something in writing.

No I'm not volunteering

Very fair point and yet I know they like the semi-privacy there too, the devs that is. Part of it is understandable and should be respected, but part of it is ego and elitism. I mean the DJ05 leak I can totally respect. But kernels and this new voodoo. When scrolling back thru the overnight sometimes I see someone come in and ask for a link and he/she never gets linked, its just 2-3 guys having their own conservation. I mean now there's a separate second channel that the regulars seem to know about but newcomers dont. FWIW, the numbers have swollen massively recently.
Like I said above, I think Im just due for a couple days break from IRC and even this place and even....tweaking my own SF . Thanksgiving break is hitting at the perfect time methinks

Yeah I'm starting to dislike in irc seeing handles I've never heard of that don't introduce themselves and just want to be given files. It only takes a few minutes to say hi: )

I really prefer newcomers with issues to keep a lot of questions to forums as that way many of us can see it and help out. Asking somethings in irc is a crapshoot.

I agree with saps I try and respond to the many pm s I get all over the place but its just easier if its out in the open. No one should feel embarrassed asking even hat could be considered a noob question.....we've all been there: )

Yeah it can get pretty busy in there some times and question can get missed or your answer , when it does come, could be missed. Its a great way to be on top of the latest but a poor way of getting the word out once they release it.

Second channel uhhh? Why didn't anyone tell me?

You mean the rr_chs channel saps?

But yeah I'm gonna try and give it somewhat of a break as well for the next few days. We'll see how long that lasts :)

The manpower is basically my point and how to help with that.

If you had a link in the topic all you'd have to refer to is "see the topic links" Then if you have a question come back and ask.

It would clear out a lot of noise and make it easier on you guys and drive traffic to someones site.

Made a "What's the latest in IRC" thread would be handy.

I dropped into the IRC channel yesterday afternoon to ask a few questions. I have to say that the guys in there were great about answering questions. This is a great community and those who give up their spare time to help others are a big part of the reason why.

Thanks for all you do!

I have been out for the last week and there is so much to process regarding the latest kernels, voodoo and so forth. Thanks for all your patience especially Saps, nitsuj17 and all of the phandroid community that take their time to help us newbies. Now i gonna try some new kernels as well as ROMS, the super-dark looks nice.
Wow Damon yeah if you missed a week thats like a year in IRC/Dev-world. Seriously though the hot topic of the past week is the new and real voodoo arriving. Prior to that it was the leak of the DJ05 updates. Lots catch up on my friend. Hope all is well with your health

Thanks Saps, Its been quite a roller-coaster ride regarding my health. I disabled Voodoo 1.2LV Dirks and installed stupid-fast (1.2.3) with super-dark ROM and its nice, but my battery is taking a pounding in the last hour and a half ( went from 96 to 85 in an hour and a half and i sent and received 2 texts, nothing else). I have no widgets and i haven't installed any apps yet, spare parts is not picking up any issues as well. I guess i need to join IRC in order to get the new goodies such as JT's D05 clean ROM and the Voodoo 5. any recommendations on a kernel or ROM that balances speed with battery life? i will keep experimenting
