OK, I never thought this would be an issue.......of all things.

My iPhones Notes app had the option to sync with my Gmail Notes. Pretty handy, over the air, instant. No brainer. Yes, the Gmail Notes aren't editable but thats OK.

So I figure, certainly, every Gmail/Google feature ought to be available for Android, right? Just makes sense.

Can I find a Notes app that does this? No. Am I an idiot? Probably likely.

Can anyone help me out here?

PS- I am NO Apple fanboy. The UI on the iPhone though is quite well thought out. Though, as I suspected, I will quickly warm to Android.

If you need a good note app then look no further than OI Notepad. Idk if its still on the market because I have had it for a while but if its not on the market anymore I can hook you up with it. It doesn't sync anything but it works great as far as saving your notes and letting you email or text them to someone.

It looks like they have a website for it. Doesn't look like it syncs with Gmail Notes though.

Hi, no they're not kidding you! It's pretty poor.

I've been using Android for around six months now, and have been looking for a basic note application that store notes on the handheld and syncs with anything at all, I'm really not fussy, google would do. I originally wanted it to sync via USB with my laptop because I'm old-fashioned about privacy, but I'm prepared to compromise on this. However, nothing appears to be available to do this!

I came to the system from Palm which has had this simple functionality for about twenty years. When I've asked about syncable memos on forums my experience is that people will helpfully name lots of note apps, none of which actually do what I'm asking!

Astrid tasks syncs with google tasks and has a note taking function. Evernote also syncs with the online version of itself.

Thanks for these. I've tried using task software to keep notes but it's a horrible kludge, a bit like trying to use emails to yourself to help you remember things. And Evernote does not store notes on the phone, in other words the phone app is not much more than a fancy browser to let you look at the notes you have stored on Evernote's servers. If you have no signal you have no notes.

You could try Catch Notes. It stores locally, but allows you to setup a sync account on their servers. I haven't tried syncing yet, however, so I don't know how well it works.

I was one of the many who were really bummed when Google dropped their Google Notebook development altogether back in Jan of 2009.

I am somewhat happy with the newest version of Evernote for Android since it's not just a browser anymore (the old version was crap, 2.0 is much better) and does view notes on the device itself. With the free Evernote account, you can view the notes offline if you created the note on your Android device. Fortunately for me, I can't recall the last time I was without a signal or within a WiFi hotspot.

SpringPad is a nice alternative. You can view all your notes offline, and the UI is very nice. I think they could improve the simplicity of a few areas in their features, but all in all a good service. Development team is actively working to improve what is already a pretty good service.

Catch notes (formerly Snaptic) is really good. They offer full offline notes and some of the best features are a result of the simplicity of their note taking design. Well worth a look.

Evernote does local notes now. It also allows syncing to the cloud, as well as email/SMS to others. Notes, photos, and voice notes, as well as document attachments.

You can also download a PC companion, web clipper, and scanner companion.

I've found it an easy switch and quite useful.

Documents to Go will sync with Google docs, may be a bit over kill though. there is a free version and the paid version goes on sale from time to time. I paid 5.55 on Cinco de Mayo. I think there are a few other apps that are 'notepad' type apps that also sync with gdocs.

OK, does anyone know if Evernote can email to a recurring subject line email or similar? Can it be set to automatically email every note you make?

If it can, then I'll just set up a filter in Gmail to put all the evernote emails into my Notes bin.

I don't think it will email automatically. However, if you're willing to pay for an app, there is a good chance an app like Tasker will allow you to create that kind of automation. It'll take a little bit of work and time on the front end for you, but after that it will administer itself.

I like the post-it note skin, and I upgraded to the full version, so you get automatic syncing. So automatic sync with the widget is a winner for me, and not really an issue. But I agree that it's pretty lax not to have full Google integration.

gTasks is for Google Tasks. Does not work with Google Notebook.

I miss being able to sycn my outlook notes and calendar right from my PC. I had to make workarounds.

I changed all of my notes to docs and I use documents to go and google docs.

I believe there is a new app that allows you to view google docs without documents to go. I can't remember the name but I'm sure if you google it you'll find it.

I use an app called "UPVISE" Upvise - Upvise Features

They have Notebook , that I just tested it and it DOES automatically sync. You can have a personal account for free - it includes Contact, Notebook, RSS News, shopping (grocery list),

They have a business account too with contacts, sales $, projects, notebook, ideas, expenses, work order, delivery, forms, files. I dont know much it costs.

I've been using it for 2+ years (first on BB) now on my Droid X

I use Springpad. Offline notes are not much of an issue for me. In the very rare case I find myself without service, I have much bigger problems than accessing my notes. But it doesn't sync with Google notes.

I too miss syncing notes with Outlook. The closest I've come is using "Note Everything". I can export my outlook notes and email or copy the file to my phone and then NE will import the notes from that file. Follow the directions... there is some custom mapping. I don't change my notes very often and when I do, it's usually on the PC. I need the notes on my phone for reference... so this couple-step method works OK for me.
