belleville, il
so, both speakers in my phone went out...since i've had the phone for about 5 months? I maybe have a combined usage of 2 hours talk time...lol

goto Best Buy "it's a manufacturer defect, we'd have to send it in" die in a fire guy.

goto Sprint, pay 35$ to fix it. The reciept shows they only replaced the speaker(s). Both work fine now so I'm all 'wooooo', however, closer inspection, the camera glass isn't cracked like it used to be, andi had a crack in the shell on the bottom left next to the home button, it's gone.

Pull off batt cover and its spotless underneath it.

Should I assume i have a new/refurb phone and not my old phone with new speakers?

I don't mind, phone looks MINT, also, my kickstand isn't squeaky anymore, ha.

Your signature shows you run a custom rom. Is that rom still installed? If so its your phone if not its a replacement. Sprint wouldn't root your phone because it voids your warranty

Also, 90% of their employed staff don't possess the comprehension or brain power TO root. However, with unrevoked, I duno. One click IS simple.... they'd screw it up somehow.

I had bestbuy repair my phone. New lcd and rear screen. Didn't lose root and I just flashed my nandroid when I got it back. They even put on a new invisible shield for me. Took 3 weeks but I still have MY phone back :)

Cool! But 3 weeks?
Too much device addiction withdrawal for me. Was this a warranty thing or did they charge you and if they did charge, what was the cost?

i am running the same rom, i unrooted phone and ran official sprint update and took it in to get fixed...

got it back in about 30 minutes and rooted it and flashed the rom back. not sure why i didn't save my nandroid and root and restore that...oh well.

it is still hardware v003, it has the same PRI and PRL my old phone had...when i got it back it had all my home screens and apps etc on it.

i'll have to look at the ##786# and get back to you.

warranty, no charge and the work order said manufacturer warranty on it. I do have bestbuy's ins. though, not sure what would have happened with out it. I probably won't be keeping the ins. anymore though. Not due to satisfaction, just now that the phone is older I can just switch back to an old phone if anything happens before I can upgrade again.

Yeah 3 weeks was crazy! When I picked it up the guy asked how long it took for the evo to be repaired, then he apologized. and put on a new invisible shield for me. all free of charge. they gave me a loaner phone, instinct HD, man is that thing a POS as compared to the evo.

it was really nice to get MY phone back and just flash my nandroid back up and have my phone back just the way I left it :)

edit: I screwed up my first post. I had the lcd and rear SPEAKER replaced. they also installed a new touch outer glass ;-)

No, it doesn't.

yes, it does. manufacturer warranty, but it doesn't void your insurance plan ;-)

HTC is probably the only one that would care anyway. and the guy working in the repair shop actually working on the phone could care less. also a rebuilt phone would lose root access when they flash new stock software anyways. so its what ever.

sprint wouldn't give you a new or rebuilt phone with root access, novarider is correct.

Most likely a refurb. They really don't fix things anymore.

I wouldnt put to much basis on what the data useage says. I've been using close to 10g's a month the past three months and it says nothing near that... maybe like a 1/10 of what i actually use. I've been using my EVO with the HotSpot as my primary internet connection at home and my numbers are not much more than yours.

This sucks! My rear speaker is staring to buzz when sound plays trough it. I do have the insurance trough sprint. But I'm a senimental kinda person. I had this phone since day one. Pre ordered it the first day that preordering was avaliable. Best buy even said i had first dibs at what time i could pick up the phone on opening day since I was first in line. I hope i could have them repair it on the spot. I know the store near here repairs phones. id really like to keep this one. No problems except the speaker. And what makes me mad is its so easy to replace the speaker for them...6 screws.. little prying. and replace the speaker. Oh well. If i need to get a refurbished i guess il settle for one.

I've been a Sprint customer for 10+ years. Apparently that doesn't mean much to Sprint anymore.

For the past 10 years, I've owned only "dumb phones". Phones I normally replace every 2 years with something else that was either free or $50~100.00 dollars.

The HTC EVO 4G is my first true smart phone and with it came a whole bunch of new issues.

That said, when this contract is up, I don't think I'll go Sprint again. Verizon seems to KILL Sprint in the customer service department.

My wife has a family plan for her and the kids with 3 phones on the plan. She just got her first Android too, about two weeks before I got mine when the EVO launched.

Her Droid just stopped working about a week ago and no questions asked, Verizon gave her a new one at the local corporate store. No insurance claim, no out of pocket cost. They said it was under warranty still so they just swapped it.

Rewind to about a month before this. My son set his dumb phone in the shower, in the back so he wouldn't miss texts from some girl.. While he showered..........

Phone stopped working, Verizon replaced it, no questions asked, no out of pocket cost. Obviously we left out the shower story and I guess they didn't notice. They tried to flash an update, it didn't work so they replaced it under warranty, on the spot.

Sprint tells me I gotta pay or I gotta send it off to HTC.

Psssttt.
