If this has been discussed, feel free to point me in the right direction.

I signed up for a free gmail account when I got my EVO. Now my company has purchased a domain and deploying Google Apps so I have a new mail address and I'd like to dump the regular gmail address.

Problem number one is that my apps are tied to the account I want to dump.

Problem two is that if I don't dump that account, for reasons outlined in number one, then the first account setup on the phone opens by default every time you go to gmail on the phone. Annoying and extra steps every time you go to mail.

Are there solutions to this when changing email?

Or you can try something like K9 Mail that allows unified inbox for multiple mail accounts.

As already mentioned you can't change your main account without a reset, and then you can't transfer your paid apps. You might be able to take the .apk's off the phone if you're rooted and transfer them over but they won't be in your market anymore as paid apps.

You don't need to be rooted just to copy over the .apk files. Just plug your phone into a USB port and then launch adb (it's part of the Android SDK, which you can download for free). From adb you can pull the files off directly with adb pull /system/apps/theFileYouWant.apk

You cannot delete the files unless you are root (and even then, you have to unmount and re-mount the /system filesystem with write privileges) but you can certainly read and copy the files from it. Once they are stored on your computer, you could just reset the phone, enter in the new email address, and then use adb install to install the applications back on the phone.

I have just modded my phone and when I set my market account back up I accidentally put in the wrong gmail address. Now all my sixty or so apps I have purchased are under another account and I have NO access to them.

Frankly I think this is wrong on the part of the Android Market to give you NO OPTION to make a correction. They allow the developers to change but not the purchasers.

It would be a MAJOR PAIN for me to have to do a factory reset at this point.

If anyone has any new insight on this please let me know. I would really appreciate it!
