columbus,oh.
i don't understand what they mean by "linked contacts",
i have deleted all contacts in t-mobile, sim, ect...
except for google contacts.
when i go into "contacts">settings>more>linked contacts
it shows a list of "linked" contacts
i am confused and don't understand what it means or
what they are linking with, any help???????

I am also confused but I am pretty sure it means that there are duplicates? I know for example, I have people come up twice.. once for their google account and then another for contacts or fbook and they say "linked" so i check it and it merges them together. It does this every so often when they detect new ones that are matched..

It took me a few hours while at work to figure this one out...

Tmobile has your contacts backed up on a server and sim card. I had to delete both.
Also on my google account it doubled my contacts. Said i had like 104 or something like that when all i had was like 67. I honestly had to dig like crap in there to remove the doubles. My phone and accounts were showing my dad 5 times. But on the phone when i linked it was once. However when i wanted to change his picture there they were again.

After removing all the duplicates i went back into the phone, contacts, view and ONLY Checked my google ; my contacts. Now no more duplicates. I have one person linked and thats my wife. I can deal with one.

The linked part puts all your duplicate contacts into one contact. It will import all the numbers so be careful. You may have several with the same # twice.

Ah yeah thats what I figured too. Except for some reason mine didnt pull up all the duplicates at the same time. It did it a few at a time as facebook synced and all that. I'm sure I have a few duplicates in there already and It's going to be a bitch taking care of that.

It says in your sig that your mytouch 4g is rooted. What are the pros of getting the mytouch rooted? I know some ppl do it for tethering, hotspot or just general customization but I'm not sure what mytouch needs. It has froyo, hotspot, tethering and all that stuff. I'm not even sure if there are any roms out there for the mytouch 4g yet.
Any reason to do this? Is it hard to flash back to stock so i dont void my warranty? My friend has the vibrant n he has some 1 button root so its easy as pie.

This also applies to your Facebook and Twitter contacts. When you are synced with these services, if your contacts have accounts there, it matches them up and 'links' them for you. You will now see their FB pic in the contact view, see their birthdays, etc and if you add them to the FAVES area, you will see their most recent FB or Twitter update attached to their pic. Pretty cool.

Check out the link. I used the root to get rid of the actual crap ware that i will never ever use. AND also the best part is its not a permanent root. all you would have to do is reset the phone (reboot) via the power options and wholla back to normal with all the apps you installed.

Its very simple

I had this exact same problem a few weeks back and figured it out the hard way (on my own), but it is kind of a pain if you ask me. Like I wanted to add ringtones to my contacts and couldn't because I was only using the Google contacts, if I linked them however, to my T-Mobile contacts then I had no issues adding ringtones to anyone. Weird, but I guess that's how it goes. (Oh and mine was on a MT3GS).

HELP!! I just got a my touch 4g switching from blackberry. the phone is awesome BUT I cant figure out how to search for a contact by company name in the contact screen or the phone screen. Does anyone know if there is a setting for that or if there is another contact app that will work?

If the company name is entered for your contact, when you enter the name in the search field at the top (magnifying glass icon) of your contacts list, all people within that organization will appear.

I'm switching from the iPhone...does anyone know how to get the contacts from the Mac Address Book into the mytouch4g? This is driving my crazy...

You can export it a as a CSV file, and then go into your google account and import that file. It's what I did from outlook. Then, once it's imported, if your contacts are on facebook, twitter, etc, your MT4G can link those accounts. also, found this link:

Export iPhone Contacts as CSV File | Save iPhone Contacts | iPhone
