By the time we get 2.2 I won't have my phone anymore. I bought the galaxy tab had it for 2 weeks and everything was so much better than the phone, but almost every day it locked up at least once. So I exchanged it for an iPad. I wonder will the fascinate do the same? Disappointed it takes this long for an update. My phone is so buggy.

My phone works great, but I have this tendency to factory reset it and re-root/de-bloat every month.

My Sprint Tab is great. Haven't really had issues with lock-ups or anything. Did you get the Verizon one? When I had the Verizon one I did have some issues.

I really hope they incorporate the tap and drag text editing that they have on the Tab whenever Froyo hits the Fascinate. I also hope that the "fix" for the lower four button time-out becomes an option, I personally love that they stay on for only 1-2 seconds.

Jeez...another Fascinate Froyo thread! It is What it is,,,phone on 2.1 is better then Just about all the devices that have 2.2!

That is being pointed out by more and more Froyo users.

This is beginning to remind me of the angst over 2.1 coming to the 1.5 Eris.

Rooting, and the many ROM choices offered in 2.1 and 2.2 flavors, finally leveled the playing field. ;)

yea I have a feeling froyo is going to be a let down when it finally comes for a lot of people. When updates take a really long time they seem to get held up like they are going to revolutionize things.

Which is why I've deactivated my Fascinate and am using my Rooted Droid X with Apex ROM OC to 1.1GHZ. I'm tired waiting for Froyo on the FS. When it comes, I'll wait and see how many bugs it has before I install it.

Smart strategy, as far as using the device that suits you now, while waiting for the update and feedback from users on Fascinates running the new 2.2 update.

I can't say that, or what I said in post #12, without repeating that my particular Fascinate functions quite excellently, and I anticipate the coming updates to not change that at all.

I experienced that with my Eris, and some of us noticed that users with issues on 1.5 by-and-large continued to have issues on 2.1, while most of us with a bug free 1.5 found our devices bug free on 2.1.

Rooting was about more control, and that "level playing field," etc. ;)

My fascinate is awesome, it does everything i ask it to do. Full episodes of
South Park, movies on YouTube, and anything else you want to watch. its tunable via kernals & roms, and it looks good too.

i had an ally (ashamed to admit) before i came to the Fascinate and can see me keeping this phone for 3 maybe 4 years. hey its possible !

well most of us have lowered our expectations, from Froyo bringing world peace. Myself Im only expecting it to have my breakfast waiting for me when I wake up, and pick up my dry cleaning

I love the Fascinate, but there are features of Froyo that you just can't duplicate (correct me if I'm wrong) on Eclair, like: Chrome to Phone, Voice dialing over Bluetooth, Exchange support, etc.

and of course flash and JIT...so yeah those will all be nice additions, but at least the fascinate has the best 2.1 experience out there to narrow the gap a bit :)

theres no reason we dont have 1.2 ghz Froyo Fascinates. everything is already there to make it happen.

while i agree theres not a great reason we dont have froyo...the processor speed has nothing to do with anything. if samsung could have guarenteed that every single processor could run at 1.2 ghz stable then they probably would have gone ahead and clocked them that high, as it would have been a huge selling point as 1ghz was already the standard.

can most fascinates and sgs run 1.2 ghz....yes...but that doesnt mean every single one can and then we d all be complaining about failing hardware.

i think with overclock its generally the 1st releases of a new chip that have huge overclock potential as with less testing and real world experimentation oems will clock lower for safety.

the droid 1 is a great example of this. motorola underclocked a processor rated at 650 mhz to 550, when in reality almost every one of the omap processsors was 1 ghz capable and many to 1.1 and 1.2. however motorola figured bettery battery life and less of a risk of failure was better to their selling strategy as processor speeds meant little to the market even a year ago.

i think the g2 is another good example. the first of 2nd generation snapdragons was clocked at 800 mhz when its been shown to be capable of up to 1.9 ghz  and universally stable at 1.4. htc was stressing that newer and smaller chip architecture was more important than clocked speeds and for a "flagship" phone they most likely felt it was safer to underclock then run it higher. they corrected this with the desire hd as its the same processor clocked at 1 ghz.

also lower memory support for 2.1 (under 256 mb) has been the cause of overclock memory bottlenecking. the droid x was limited to 1.15 on android 2.1 whereas many can hit 1.4 on 2.2 now...so that is somethign to consider as well.

well, what i meant , was wouldnt it be cool to have 1.2 ghz Fascinates cause that would help with the extra lag that is bound to be added to the froyo machines. you know there is going to be a ton of extra stuff people will load on their phones when froyo comes out. Like live TV, live sports, we could get that live person to person video. 1.2ghz would be like extra fluffing on
a already good set.

yeah 1.2 is cool, dont get me wrong :)

really though overclocking a lag-ridden rfs kernel is not as effective as if samsung had made a cleaner kernel in the first place that was snappy at 1 ghz

Great post and great info, nitsuj (post #20).

However, my thoughts about processor speeds, after overclocking the dinky Eris with SetCPU, are not the same as the thoughts I had about it prior to root being available (way back then ;)).

If users want lag cured, they need to look at how their device is configured to sync and update in the background, and how they use GPS and their device all around, etc.

For example, I found that the Eris real world processor speed from 528 to 768 was not much to notice at all, and that the Eris ran great once configured properly and maintained regularly, all with the CPU left stock.

This Fascinate, with its faster CPU, will never be over clocked by me.

I don't think lag and slowdowns in any device with a 528 or higher chip is about that chip speed rating much at all.

yeah great point frisco. a lot of the performance issues in a phone have more to do with what is running and bogging you down then actual clock speed.

i will say though that even though it was a huge bump, jumping from stock 998 mhz to 1.13 was neccessary to play angry birds without hideous slowdown on my incredible. it was a world of difference to help compensate for its lousy gpu.

well as a layman, i can honestly tell you about the stability of 1.2. The phone is rock stable doing anything EXCEPT heavy graphics. I can re-produce lockup on NFS almost every time and running the Quadrant graphics section sometimes 1 out of 10 times. So yea i know things arent perfect but i believe
that line just isnt that far away as far as the game graphics are concerned.

running at 1.2 under any other use, the phone is rock stable.

Surfing the web, tethering, phone calls , GPS, you name it and it just haulz azz.
