Root Won't boot help!!!

Hi all.
I have a Samsung Fascinate and recently I just started up the phone and i see the Samsung logo and hear the sound, but the screen won't switch from the samsung logo.

I tried doing a factory reset but nothing will work! I don't know what to do because I really don't want to take it back to Verizon.

Thanks in advance.

did you do anything to it? root? rom? kernel?

Yeah we definetly need more info as to what you did. As long as voodoo wasn't invilolved almost everything can be solved with odin

Yes and yes I did all that.. still doesn't work.

well at that point i would Odin Restore files to get you to stock - xda-developers

you need the samsung drivers installed on your computer

you need the odin files pit, system, kernel and recovery and the odin program

always use the pda button and not phone in odin

put your phone in download mode (hold volume down and then plug in usb)

open odin...select pit/pit then pda/system

click start

after that

pda/kernel

then pda/recovery

should get you back to good

you can use heimdal with mac, but im assuming if you used a phone only root app, and heimdal involves code that it may not really be an option for you.

find a buddy to let you borrow a pc for about 20-30 mins

heimdall is pretty tough to use, I tried messing around with it the other day after beesley mentioned it and quickly gave up. If you havent already I would strongly suggest finding someone with a pc that you can use for a little while.

:p

Well that about sums up the reason why Motorola and HTC are locking down their phones.

If you ever attempt to root again take some time and read over the dozens of threads here on how to do it.

Its ok buddy, in thru the nose and out thru the mouth:D

yeah when I read he just returned it I was like uh-oh, I knew your keen radar would find it way in here

again i will say i dont mean to talk down to or at anyone or be a jerk...i think most would agree i will help people out (or try to) regardless of what i think about what they are doing/have done.

that being said, if you choose to root...please take responsibility for your own actions. since technically you violate your warranty by rooting...you are committing a form of fraud (whether or not you think you might be) be warrantying it through verizon.

i dont think thats the case if you go through samsung, but still it makes the oems/carriers want to lock all of us out of these phones.

the advice we gave the op to locate a windows computer for 30 mins (not too hard of a task) to restore their phone was fairly straightforward and given what happened to the phone id say 95% chance it would have been successful.

regardless, i know the sickening feeling of not having a working device for some amount of time...and to each his/her own...but it does add a line or two to my approaching 30 year old forehead

thanks saps....there are many helpful people here and everyone makes mistakes when new (or experienced for that matter)

i just like to point out when im on a rant (mostly for the casual passerby or new user) that im not usually a jerk

just *generally* if you come and ask for advice and get it from multiple people and you choose to not take that advice...then whats the point???? :(

Not a jerk at all nit, really a nice guy. You and saps have to be the most helpful guys in here. Not to say there aren't plenty of other people that have gave me help, but I can always count on one of you guys. I can never say how much I appreciate you guys:)

Yeah we must have been separated at birth or something, we are alike in almost every way in terms of mindset/ideology and general sense of altruism helping others. He's clearly the smart one though; Im the sexy one :eek::D
I think its because we [and many others in here] understand that we've all been there and done that. We all learn everything from someone else somehow. Its funny because some people who were thanking us a month ago are now the go-to people with knowledge and info. Its that whole pay it forward thing.
Honestly, if I had to make a list of all the friendly helpful people in AF or even the SF sub section that list would be dozens and dozens of names.
But yeah, nitsuj17 is the best, a good man and usually good for a funny moment or two ;).

I was hoping to get a quick fix on how to restore my device in a short amount of time, but when a windows computer was needed and i only had a mac, there became a problem.

I don't know anyone with a PC, and I'm not going to bother trying to find anyone with one... so my obvious response was to exchange it.

However still, I don't know exactly WHAT caused the problem and I will not root again until i found out what it was exactly..

That being said.. does anyone know the cause of the Samsung logo freeze on startup.. It seemed as if everything was running fine; the sound was playing, but the logo blocked all displays.

Thanks for the help once again.;)

ive never heard of someone NOT knowing a friend or something with a PC...i mean macs are growing in popularity but well over 80% of computer in existence are pcs

but in any event....there are very few *quick* fixes out there...but that doesnt mean spending 20 minutes to resolve something is bad...we all learn from it

i really think to root/mod this phone you need access to odin for emergencies...given that you apparently cant access it that will be an issue going forward as heimdall is way too advanced to use imo unless you really know what you are doing.

ive already made my feelings known in many posts all over the place about warrantying phones, so i wont say anything else to that :)
