Help Bottom Line: iPhone works better. Android is realistically still BETA

I have had my new HTC Desire HD for about 3 weeks now. WHAT A F*&%^ING NIGHTMARE when it comes to MS outlook exchange synch.

First I get problems with contacts synching. Then I get problems with mail synching, now I have problems with calendar synching, and despite the fact that I am telling the HTC Synch app to synch my calendar, it doesn't.

Then I had to do an undocumented deletion of some temp files to get Locations to work.

Then I had to clear of the memory on Calendar to get calendar to work.

I NEVER had to reset my iPhone. Not even once. I really regret not getting the iPhone 4. I have spent more time in the last 3 weeks screwing around with my freaking Android phone than I did in > 2 YEARS with iPhone OS.

I hate to say it, but Android should stay in the box until it is ready. I didn't buy the phone so I could become an Android Admin, I just want it to synch my email, contacts and calendar. Is this too much to ask?

Probably a user error, seeing as how that isn't a widespread issue with android devices. I've synced contacts, calendar and email since I've had android with no issues. But that being said, sounds like you're within your 30-day worry free guarantee. You can either swap for a new desire if you feel the problem lies in the device, or if you regret or decision so much, go return it and get an iphone. Either way, good luck getting your issues resolved

I have had my Android for about a year and a half and have had no issues as far as syncing my contacts and email goes. I never use the calendar so I have nothing to worry about that. Everything I have that syncs comes right from my gmail account, maybe thats why most do not have issues? Try syncing all your stuff through gmail and maybe that will help.

But if all else fails you can always go exchange or return it if your within that 30 day worry free garuntee and either get a different android or go back to that iphone you had before. Anyway good luck.

There have been a number of people who have had problems syncing with Exchange and there are a number of threads dedicated to getting things running properly.

One suggestion I have seen repeated more than a few times is to use Touchdown.

You're just too used to Apple spoon feeding you an OS that has absolutely no options to change much so it just 'works' Android gives you more options than you know what to do with.

Maybe Apple feeding you too much until you become a lazy thinker eh. Search online for the solutions and there are tons out there. So far I had no problems with any of the issues you written above.

I-phone is all about the NUI they love to make things simple, easy and of coarse feel natural to do.

Its like any operating system for a desktop client i bet if you sat down on a linux machine you wouldn't be able to do everything right away that you can in windows machine or a mac.

They are different operating systems and giving up on something is so easy perhaps user error at this stage as we all know thats the biggest cause for problems on any computer device be it handheld or a workstation is user error.

Just because "It hasn't happened to me" doesn't mean it isn't happening....

Nobody's saying you don't have an issue, but to come here and start by saying Android is rubbish and iPhone rocks will alienate those people who could probably solve your problem. I have had no issues with email on the 3 different Android phones I've owned, so it's not an Android problem. Something must be up with your phone or the server you're trying to connect with.

Switched from Windows Mobile (long time user) to Android. It has been challenging like Handyman posted. Still in training. I have Evo rooted and customized to my likings. And yes, I have gotten angry and wanted to throw my Evo at the wall. But I am the type to keep at it until i find a solution.

I seen it on WM forums- the same thing and now here... "I'm getting an iPhone cause I don't know how to make something work..." The difference I see between iPhone users and the other smartphone users is that when iPhone users have an issue with their phone- Steve Jobs tells them that is them that is causing the issue- they believe it, accept the defect and they go on living their lives.

I would possible agree with this thread if you where talking about Android 1.5 (cupcake) that had some serious flaws, but 2.2 is fantastic. There are areas that could be improved but this is the case with every operating system.

I don't think I said "rubbish" in any of my posts... OR that iPhone "Rocks". Why do you think I got an Android phone in the first place? I said "beta". While I don't think that I should be apologizing for posting a legit concern, I guess that I stepped on some Android fan toes here.

The point is that sometimes, you just want something to work. I am an engineer and write tons of code for work. It's 80% of what I do. I trouble shoot industrial comms protocols all day. I made a living as a UNIX sys admin when I was in College. yadda yadda yadda. I am hardly a newbie. But when you spend $$$ for a phone AND a data plan, you want the thing to work. At the moment, I am paying Vodaphone, Google and HTC with my time and effort. If the phone / OS were free and "as-is", I'd agree with you guys, but I own a business and am busy enough with that that I don't want to trouble shoot my friggin phone!

I suspect that the issue is with the security certificate on our server. I am going to try to install the security certificate to the phone this morning.

Even before the latest (29th December) update, all of a sudden everything was working as it should on the phone one day. Never found the solution. It wasn't anything I did.

Hope you get it sorted mate. Even though this phone is a grand step up from my old Sony Ericsson X1 (or should I say, 3 of them), the teething issues and constant niggling problems are something that is getting to me too.
