Phone Arena is saying that the Nexus One is an HTC Passion running android 2.1. I don't know, i hope all of us on Verizon have a nice HTC phone coming!

Nexus One finally caught on video alongside its packaging -- Engadget

I've been holding off on saying this, but I now believe that the Nexus One=Nexus One, not Passion. This latest video shows the Nexus One sitting on it's box which is branded Nexus One, like retail packaging. I now think that the Passion is an entirely different device, and I have to say that I think Bravo=Passion. And the Passion will be coming to Verizon early this next year. I was holding off on saying this until I saw more proof because I thought maybe "Nexus One" was just a codename or something, but now after seeing this phone on what appears to be RETAIL PACKAGING branded "Nexus One", I have to say that I think that Nexus One is the official market name for this phone. I could be way off, but that's seriously what I'm thinking. This has to be a cheaper phone so that Google can sell it afford-ably enough to where it can be sold out-right and un-subsidized and simply opperate on T-Mobiles network. It would make sense then, that Verizon would go a different route and get a better, more expensive phone because they will be subsidizing it so that Verizon customers can afford to buy it. Any thoughts?

Edit: I may be completely wrong here, as it appears that past Google developer phones had fancy packaging. Here is the quote: "Also on hand is a few snapshots of the casing it came with -- don't read too much into that, however, as even the developer-only Google Ion had fancy packaging."

Edit 2: I have a good question for anyone who knows... Did the Google Ion developer phone every materialize into a consumer phone? Maybe under another name or something on a major carrier? If anyone knows, post what you know about that here. Because if it didn't, that could mean that this Nexus One could be a developer phone ONLY and it may never hit mass consumption. It could be the same scenario as the Ion, assuming the Ion never was brought to the masses.

Actually, it appears that the Nexus, which would be ADP3, is following in the footsteps of both developer phones that came before it. ADP1, aka the G1 and ADP2, aka MyTouch 3G. Both on Tmo, both built by HTC.

If the Nexus and Sony X10 both come out in January, I think that will put pressure on Verizon and HTC to release the phone in January also.

None of the ADP were consumer devices per se. At least they were not marketed as such. But as far as I know if you pay a $25 fee and register as a developer anyone can buy one of the ADP's for $400.
Also the wikipedia entry for the Dev Phones talk about how they would work outside of T-Mobile areas.

OK...I'll bite. I agree! Hey, why not? I'm gonna go out on a limb with this guy and say that I think there is a version of the Bravo coming to Verizon in AT LEAST the first quarter of 2010, and while I'm at it, I'm gonna go ahead and say that it will look nothing like the Nexus One. I think it's going to be badass and it's going to look like the rendered picture from the brochure that we've seen. The black one with the optical trackball. It will have Android 2.1 on it and it will have HTC Sense UI on it. And right at the top above the screen...you guessed it, a Verizon logo! There. I've said it. I believe it. That's what I'm banking on. No one bust my bubble please.

If this doesn't come true, then I'll just get a Droid or an Eris. End. Of. Story. We need something to have some faith in, and this is what I'm PERSONALLY choosing to have faith in. If it doesn't happen, then what have I lost? Nothing.

Now THAT'S optimism right there! Anyone else with me? I know the guy who started this thread is. Any other takers?

Alright. There's the answer I was looking for. I was wanting to know because I'm trying to figure out if this Nexus One is going to be released to a few different carriers perhaps or if it is just going to be going to T-Mobile. I'm trying to, mainly, figure out if the Nexus One is the Passion or not.

See? That's what I was thinking too. That's why I asked all of the developer phone questions. However, the form factor of the Hero/Eris was never a developer phone. So...that leads me to believe that this Nexus One form factor MAY only come to T-Mobile like previous developer phones. Meaning that whatever comes to Verizon won't even be the same design or form factor. Someone else tell me if I'm way off or not. Cause, I think I COULD be onto something here. Assuming they do things the way they've done them in the past.

Edit: OK, I went and Google searched the dream/g1 and magic/mytouch 3g. They obviously don't look anything like the Hero/Eris. They were all previously developer phones and only came to T-Mobile. So...if this Nexus One is a developer phone, that would make sense that it is only coming to T-Mobile and probably will be named something different by then for T-Mobile, or maybe not named something different. They may stick with "Nexus One."

The reason I've been researching this stuff so much is because I'm trying to rest myself assured that Verizon is getting something completely different. This isn't a TON of evidence, but assuming the Google does things the way they have in the past, this Nexus One developer phone would only come to T-Mobile and whatever future HTC Android phone that Verizon gets won't look ANYTHING like the Nexus One. It will be altogether different.

So, if they do things as they did in the past, something else is coming to Verizon, and it could very well be a variant of the Bravo which has been pictured in this thread previously. Just my theory, but I think it holds a little water perhaps.

No, we don't know that the Nexus One IS the Passion yet. There's no proof of that, and even if it WAS the Passion that doesn't mean that Verizon would even be getting a variant of it, because as I've pointed out...both past two Android developer phones, Dream and Magic, NEVER came as some other variant to other U.S. carriers. They were only on T-Mobile. So, it DOESN'T make sense to assume that Verizon is getting the Passion, if that's even what Google ends up calling it when it comes to T-Mobile. Because an Android developer phone that was eventually released to T-Mobile has NEVER come to another U.S. carrier in the same or in another form factor.

I understand your thinking, and I used to think the same thing. But there's just no evidence to really back it up or make me assume that anymore. See what I'm saying?

Yep, that's exactly what I believe Brodymon. I am, however, glad that T-Mobile is getting a pretty sweet phone around the same time though. I wish there was a sweet phone coming to Sprint too. Maybe Sprint will get something nice soon, for them, too. I'm obviously with Verizon, but I want everyone to have great phones. It would be nice if AT&T had a sweet Android device, but honestly, they have the iPhone and have had it for years now. So...it's kinda our turn to get something sweet. I know using the word "turn" is kinda childish, and maybe that's not even the word I want to use, but I think you guys understand what I mean. Carriers have to get exclusive devices though, because if every carrier got the SAME device, then what is there to sway customers to come over to certain carriers? So...the iPhone kinda had to be exclusive somewhere, otherwise we would have all had the iPhone on our individually decided upon carriers and no one would have ever left Verizon to go to AT&T for the iPhone. Know what I mean? It's all about competition.

I honestly believe that Verizon is going to be getting the HTC Bravo in January. It may be called something else by then, but I believe that they will. Honestly, I kinda think that the Nexus One will come to market on T-Mobile as the Passion, and then later on it will come to Sprint as the PassionC. Verizon will have the Bravo, or maybe it will be called the HTC Dragon on Verizon when it comes to market in January (just my opinion and hope, by the way).

"Dragon" is a VERY aggressive name, and it would have to be a KILLER phone to live up to that name. If that is what happens, I believe the HTC Bravo can live up to the name Dragon. There's my newly revised theory. haha It's been kinda dead in these forums in the past couple of days, so I'm just writing to keep things interesting. I think my theory makes a lot of sense though, at least for now.

That was before Verizon had a good thing going with Google and Android like they do now. Look, HTC makes the Nexus One so you've got to believe they can take the phone to whoever they want, just under a different name.

Nashdroid, well we could argue based on various speculations but instead let me just pose this question to you. If the Bravo phone is coming to Verizon then why was there no BravoC in the list of upcoming htc codenames? That list of codenames is one of the few pieces of evidence we have and your theory goes against it. There was a Passion and PassionC and a Bravo but no BravoC. It has been determined from looking at current phones in the list, such as DesireC (Eris), that the C means CDMA. I'm not saying your definitely wrong but you seem to have chosen the less likely possibility given this.

@nashdroid you also have to remember how much more popular android has gotten. with the first 2 dev phones it was just us nerds "technically inclined" people who really knew of them verizon maybe didnt want to jump on ship yet. now with it being a little more used they decided to jump on in and will jump on the cdma version of the nexus. i would prefer the bravo to jump into verizons line up i like the way that one looks more not to mention optical track ball instead of a trackball but would buy either

Good. I'm getting everyone's wheels turning. haha Guys, I'm just thinking out loud. I may be totally wrong. Just theorizing. You guys may be correct. All we can REALLY do is wait and see, but until then...all we can do is speculate I guess. I just hope Verizon gets something sexier than the Nexus One form factor, but like all of you, I'd take anything that is made by HTC and is a bump up from the Eris in both screen size/quality and processor speed. Waiting...patiently...

We don't have any solid proof except a tipster said that the Bravo (may or may not ACTUALLY be called the Bravo in the U.S.) is coming to the U.S. in January, three months before it releases in Europe (April). That's what the article said. Here is a link to the Engadget article. It's all rumor right now, I think, but it kinda had to originate somewhere I'd assume. The original source is ai.rs, which is a website in Europe, I guess?

Pretty much all we're doing here is speculating, theorizing and trying to figure out what's going to happen in January, or at least the first quarter of 2010. Why? I've never been on a cell phone forum. My phone is over 3 years old. So you can tell I'm not a phone geek, but I've gotten addicted to this too. I check this site several times a day. Maybe I'm a phone geek now.
