Help storage issues

Hi. I am brand new to android and i dont understand how the storage system works. I was under the assumption that when you take pics or videos they are stored on the SD card. But now im not so sure. When i go to my gallery i have a pile of pictures that is titled "camera" and i have a seperate pile called "sd card". So i take it that the ones labled camera are on the phone storage and not on the card? And if so is there any way to move them onto the card and set the phone so that it will automatically store the pics onto the card when you take them? Thanks in advance to everyone!

They are on your SD Card, just in a different folder labeled camera.
