there is one more question I have for Hadron, do you find teppics powersavingmod pack make any difference for you? I haven't noticed much of an impact on it, have you?

Things like that depend a lot on usage. I personally didn't see a huge difference, but I'd already been doing some of the things it does (e.g. forcing minimal clock when screen off) before I installed it, and as I'm not generally a heavy user that was likely to be the biggest one.

In fact I've just done the reflash of the ROM myself (reload ROM, tweaks mods, app updates, my circle battery theme, RichardTrip kernel) without the powersaving modpack. I figured that that one was doing similar things to some of the tweaks in this kernel, and that there was the possibility that some of them might conflict, so wanted to see how the kernel did without it. Had been thinking about this for a few days, so this pushed me into actually doing it.

Of course I also reflashed my radio today (the one I was using was taking too long to get a GPS fix, and I had some newer ones on my card...) so I'm not really going to be able to make a carefully controlled comparison of battery life

ahh, I stuck with .44 radio since I haven't had any real issues or reason to switch. I might test out the .48 radio as thats the one most people have been claiming most success in for battery life.

I think you're right though with respect to the powersave mod pack. I haven't seen much of a difference myself either. I'm running richards kernel without it now and will probably report back in a few days to see how it does in comparison.

oh one more thing, do I need S-OFF to flash a radio?

No, I don't have S-OFF and can flash radios fine.

So far I've noticed a nice improvement on battery life. Gave it a couple of days to normalize and I'm currently at 97% with about 10h of "close to standby" time. Used it a few times for sms but not a lot.

dinaro, you're using one of richardtrip's 5e SVS kernels, right? Any idea what the main difference is between the CFQ scheduler in the 5e and the BFS scheduler in the new 5f kernel? And more so, what effect they might have on battery life and performance?

Yes what DF said. BFS scores a little lower in quadrant but thats just benchmarking. However, to the naked eye, the OS and app performance appears to be snappier with BFS. I've yet to test this myself and will eventually try richards BFS kernel but I'm testing out 5e SVS for a few weeks first. I'll report my BFS experience when I do it but as of now, I'm pretty happy with battery/performance on the 5e SVS kernel.

BFS scores higher on quadrant. Both SVS and HAVS kernesl with BFS are faster in all respects than the CFS counterparts in my experience.

I think BFS quadrant results have varied a bit for a lot of ppl running different sense ROMs based on what I've read on the XDA thread. I'm hoping to get better performance with higher quadrant results when I do test it out but we shall see

Well I decided to give BFS a try and loaded V5f. I do actually see lower quadrant scores that with CFQ (V5e), using otherwise near equivalent kernels (SVS 1113) and with same governor and clock (smartass, 998 MHz). General performance seems OK (on basis of a few minutes' playing, nothing more), though not visibly snappier.

Funny thing is, my phone doesn't seem to like the HAVS kernels at all - I tried the 925 mV versions of both V5e and V5f and ended up having to restore on both occasions (bootloop). No problem with the SVS versions though.

Oh I thought we were talking about cfs not cfq. No ideas about cfq. I don't have that type of kernel available. Just cfs and bfs. Bfs IS faster than cfs though

I reflashed the CFQ kernel in the end - probably didn't give it long enough to make a very objective assessment, but felt marginally happier with the older kernel overall.

Puzzled I couldn't get the HAVS kernels working. Since the ROM is pretty much a stock Sense ROM I'd not expect a compatibility problem. Might be that my phone really likes slightly higher voltages, but the reboot occurring at exactly the same point smells like software to me, so I'm guessing it's something I've added. I suppose I could go the whole way - wipe, reflash ROM, flash kernel - and see if that works, but unless HAVS makes a big difference to battery life that feels a bit excessive (and there are other things I'm supposed to be doing tonight). So maybe I'll save that for when I decide to experiment with DeFrost - some time when I've got a lot of time on my hands to keep up with the updates that ROM gets!

Meanwhile the V5e kernel seems to work very nicely.

Cool, thanks for the feedback considering you were ahead of me in that step. I might just stick with v5e svs kernel for now.
