Total newbie when it comes to this stuff, however I managed to get the easy tether program to work on my ally, but the speed of the internet is almost a joke. I get between 20kbps to 65kbps download and 200kbps to 800kbps upload, which is just fine for browsing the internet, but I like a few online games that require more speed. I read some forums on various sites, and people stated they were getting more like 4Mbps to 10Mbps with their phones. I just want to know if there is any way to get a faster speeds, is it just the phone, or is it just me? thank you

Whats your signal like? When i tether (which is most of the time) I get the following speeds.

Thats an average btw. I can get higher than that.

With that i can usually stream Last.fm, use IRC, browse net, and play OpenArena all at the sametime with no trouble.

typically when I use Barnacle I get around 100-220 kbps
That is pretty standard. I have never heard of anyone getting 4mbs or more. Not through a phone anyway. Of course I dunno maybe a 4g phone is faster.

You know Dots I am glad this topic came up.
My wife has the Ally as well and her phone seems to work like poop now.
What I mean is it drops more than it is on. Its slow as christmas... (Yikes christmas is coming) She uses it constantly watches lots of Netflix and runs her business with it. (it use to be good and fast but is not now) I thought maybe she needed a boost so I put Velocity OC'ed on her phone with Apps 2 SD. She also has the New ZVC update after I took her to Stock. Now when I put my phone on.... No problem the internet is fast again and everything works great. We basically have the same set up. Any ideas as to why hers is so slow?

What is she using to tether? Maybe apps2sd (since the app runs from the sdcard) is slowing it down? Maybe the caches on the phone? Maybe the new radio image in ZVC helped. Could be numerous things. Just brainstorming.

Well Our setup is almost twins. In fact I couldnt even tell you how they are different except that it is personalized for her,and she has different apps than me.

I have apps 2 SD as well and mine works Great!!

She did have Weather bug and I thought that might be it. So I took it off. No dice.

I also have the ZVC update. couldnt tell any real diff thow.

Do you think Verizon put some kind of slow down on her phone line since she has been pullin so much Data?
I am graspin at straws here I know.

I dont even know if thats a possibility. I dont think so but who knows.

In fact about a month to two months ago. My speed would always slow down when tethering. Would start around 5pm and would last til lat least 10pm or even later like 1am, This occured at the samething everyday. It just randomly stopped.

I find that shutting down and rebooting my Ally every morning helps keep it running more quickly. It might help her Ally. I use the stock firmware and ATK. After the reboot I kill all the running processes (with a few exceptions) and the phone seems fine for the day. Repeat each morning.

Well good call but we have tried that and it seems to work for like a minute.
She is using PDA Net right now and says its doing pretty good.
However it was doing the same thing the other day.
