I'd like to say, "Hey I'm Joe and I'm new to the Samsung Galaxy S phones and the Captivate!" I hope I get to know you all very well. My past devices have been, Droid X and the Sprint HTC Hero.

A few things then!
-Just rooted the Samsung Captivate (so that's done!)
-Have rooted my Droid X and Hero.

Even with rooting all this time I have not bricked a phone and never backed-up my apps. But I am, however, very curious to know how Titanium Back-Up works. If someone could explain how to use it I would really appreciate that! I'm getting sick of re-installing apps after I put a different ROM on it.

To ROMS..what's the best one out there?

First, welcome!

1. I suggest that future thread titles be more specific regarding need(s).
2. Regarding Titanium, here's a start: Titanium Backup Documentation
3. Regarding ROMS - I use stock - patiently awaiting Froyo. Others can jump in with their custom ROM preferences.

Thanks! I figured the Titanium Back-Up out, but now..It said something about how the system won't be able to back up because of the current system settings. The "Unknown Sources" thing that AT&T blocked. Will this have a big effect on the back-up? Or nothing at all?

EDIT: Sorry for the title. My bad

The pay/donate version (which you should really be getting) won't give you that warning, which can be safely ignored anyhow on the Captivate.

However, if you want to enable sideloading for other reasons, see the Captivate FAQ (see the 2nd method):
