Accessories Good Easy on easy off hard case

Bought the moto car dock and a soft case thinking I could mod the case to make it work. Even with the insert out it and trimming the case it still isn't right, so I have come to realize that I will just have to suck it up and put the case on and off every time I get in the car. But I want better protection than just a thin rubber case, so what's the best hard chase that either snaps on and off easily or some way that's quick.

I bought the shell/holster combo from Verizon wireless when I got the Droid X. It easily pops out for docking.

Currently, it doesn't fit in the car dock because of the little plastic nubs at the rear of the dock. One of these days I am going to try and grind them off to see if this fits with the case on.

I couldn't find it on VZW's site, but this looks like it:

i use that case and use it too.

only one thing, it will take a LOT of modding to get it to fit. I bought the same dock as the OP. I quickly noticed the same , where it won't fit in the dock. Then i read on some forums and discovered that it had an insert that i never noticed. So i took that off, and ground the little tab. Still no good. This is for one simple reason!

The insert acts ONLY as a spacer between the back/bottom of the phone and the dock. The charging port is located such that the face of the phone has to be flat against the inner face of the dock. This means that ANY case that adds any thickness to the front edges of the phone (such as the one in the pic above), won't fit, unless of course you don't care about the charging port. So i do the same and pop it off and use it that way.

That case looks good, but it looks like that most of the top and bottom is exposed. How good is the protection for the phone?

Thanks, adammsu, I didn't think of the charger location. I prolly won't even try modding the dock, now.

The very top and face are completely exposed. The case wraps around the bottom a little...maybe 30% coverage. The phone is mostly protected when the shell is in the holster

I haven't dropped it yet (*knocks on wood*) but it is very sturdy.

Agreed, I have ditched cases now because I am using the car dock a lot. I like the feel of this phone naked and it fits in my pocket much better.

My case snapped the other day as I pulled it off, the verizon holster one, so I am naked until I can find one that comes off easy...

I kept looking for a case that would work with car and home docks. Gave up and instead switched to aftermarket docks I found to work with a case I really liked.
