Odin is known to be very finicky. I've read many, many posts from people saying they simply had to keep trying to get Odin to work, and eventually it does. I'd suggest you keep at it till it takes and you are able to flash your phone.

Are you using the latest version of Odin? I believe it's at 1.7 right now. Not sure it will make a difference, but I've read about people having trouble with v1.1.

Do everything in this order and it should work fine!

Open odin
Load .pit file and .tar file
remove everything from phone (sd, sim, battery)
plug phone into computer
hold both volume keys and put battery in (should put you in downloader mode)
unplug phone
plug phone back in (odin should recognize it)
Push start

Thats it! If it doesnt work then you may need to format your sd.

For qga did you download the usb drivers for your computer? If you dont have those then your computer wont recognize your phone. There is a 32bit and 64bit depending on your windows version. Or if you did already when you get into downloader mode unplug the usb from the computer and plug it back in.

For mc-84 keep trying the way I told you and if that fails you can try to adb it into downloader. Or if all else fails I seen on you tube a way to force your vibrant into downloader.

looks complicated! Try searching on xda forums for alternate routes! there are alot of helpful people on there.

i tried all the 3 button methods, only one that worked was holding vol down+ home+power and i keep getting the POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE messege, and only way to go into recovery mode is by hooking it to the computer and using the one click root. (note I have the i9000m its got a home button, its not the t-mobile one) because of this i can not flash with odin, anyone able to fix this or is my phone bricked? here's a pic of what happen with trying to go into download mode.
