Root voodoo5 kernels are here

Ok I'm running v5 11/24 and I wanted to move to a newer one so I went to irc and got linked..the file I got was only 7mb that seemed small to me but is that about right. I got it from one of the guys in there that I don't know and call me paranoid but I'd rather be safe than sorry

redrum_chaos links the most recent files....i am running 12/1 and its fine...i think 11/30 on enable adb in recovery and restore

7mb range is what most of the kernels are.

Well fwiw Im back on the voodoo just because I can
no better or worse than no voodoo. I am pleased with the whole uninstall process, 100% reliable so far after 2 uses. I can say if anyone is flashing for the first time or using 12/1 to convert, the voice has some new/different things she tells you compared to last week. Bottom Line, it works and thats all that counts. I just hate the internal feeling and eyeball test that sometimes voodoo5 is not only not faster than non but even sometimes lags more than non. I just dont get it

i really dont understand it either...it seems like a reverse of some peoples phones. some (like me) are convinced v5 is so much better on their phones...and others like you and piiman of note clearly dont

wonder why?

Yeah, judging strictly by eyeballs alone thats too inaccurate to say well that looked like it opened in .4 seconds on voodoo and .6 seconds on non-voodoo. Snythetics are out the window since minus quadrant I/O the non is the same as the v5.
Im such a nerd noggin though that when I do some of my real world "tests" I do actually stop watch time things like time it takes picture icons to pop up in manager applications or task managers package. In those two specific "tests" of mine 12/1 voodoo is several seconds slower than 11/29 non vooodoo for me. As is the imfamous LP+ dock application list shortcut, whereas its instant on a cold boot with 11/29 or 1.5.4 the first time I run it with voodoo it takes the old school traditionally unacceptable 15 seconds :(. Now admittedly, once something is cached, then it is faster than rfs based kernels. However, that very first time I open most apps or whatever it is measurably slower for me. Other things like Handcent or the Gallery again seem to be that fraction of a second slower. Now as long as things are in the cache maybe thats the answer I dont know what that means however is using that same kernel long enough to have almost everything you want and need in there and in theory at least that just should not be the case. Plus who knows if the day 3 voodoo lag is even there. I havent even stuck with any kernel more than 24 hours since I ended my battery test

yeah 24 hours is the longest ive gone on any kernel in the last 10 days or so

all i can say in defense of voodoo 5 on *my* fascinate is that games havent hiccuped once and theres no hang on app startup or long presses

It certainly does lag behind at times I've done more than eyeball it. I actually spent a lot of time rebooting and testing with LPP ADW and Voodoo5 installed and not installed in every case v5 lagged behind, and sometimes by a lot, on first runs.

Sap, Have you done a complete uninstall that included removing the red CWM ?
I tried but ended up re installing V5 I think the 1129 non voodoo kernel I downloaded was miss labeled because it turned v5 back on when it should have uninstall it.

Its not that big of a deal since you can pretty much leave it on all the time now but if I decide to go completely back I want the stock recovery also.

I'm getting better battery life with it installed so I'll leave it for now.

maybe because voodoo hasnt cached yet on your first attempt its running poorly  i mean its never that bad for me even after wiping data/cache and flashing the kernel (to test)

but id have to imagine it would get better....idk all our setups are different....to each his own :)

Flash-a-holic :p
Yeah no need to defend voodoo5 as Im not per se attacking it.:D
Im merely sharing statistics which speak for themselves. Believe me I want to like voodoo5 its why Im back on it for the third time. But equally true the underwhelming numbers are what they are. I just re did the application dock shortcut test and it was again 15 seconds. That just sucks I dont know why. But then again how important is that? I havent changed a LP dock shortcut in weeks. Its just so disappointing to see it so starkly different there, maybe its just me though somehow.

Can others with voodoo try this out on their SF for me
: If you have LP, go to your dock icon and long press it to bring up change shortcut, then select applications and tell me how long it takes. Whenever I try it from a cold boot or a screen sleep it takes me like 15 seconds to get the list of icons to show. However, as long as my screen stays on or I run it a second time its instant.

Actually try it with several different dock shortcuts and run each one 3-4 times each. I get very mixed results even without the screen going to sleep. I just dont get it. It should not be this laggy, this is the kinda stuff that makes me ditch voodoo. Its so inconsistent :(

Are you saying that if you long press and select Widgets it comes up instantly on the first run? becauei t takes 5 seconds on my phone non voodooo and 6.5 to 7 on v5 selecting activities can take 16 to 20 seconds (sometimes longer) on lpp non voodoo and a long 42 seconds on v5:eek:

These times can be all "over the board" but they average about what I said and the only thing consistent was V5 took longer.

I think its more likely something else causing the lag and not the FS I say its more likely the way memory is accessed, either a poor memory controller or driver.

One interesting note is the X has almost exactly the same time lag as the SF. It might be interesting to compare the chip level hardware in the two or compare the code to HTC's Dinc which was instant.

haha saps, im not trying to defend it...im just trying to grasp the issues :)

im more than happy to ditch voodoo when something better comes out or is out...i think i went 2 weeks of nonvoodoo when those kernels surpassed old voodoo...i ll flash 11/29 nonvoodoo later to play around...but as of jts 0.5 nonvodoo.......my phone wasnt too happy with it
