Root Getting Droid X Root question

Rooting does not speed anything up all it does is give you access through super user permissions to speed your device up through roms overclock etc....and yes rooting does void warranty but you can easily unroot and if you go as far to putting custom Roms on your device you can always sbf flash back to stock in the event you need to utilize your warranty and they will never notice ...just be careful and read read and read again as to what you want to do so you know what is going

So I've got a question about rooting. Does rooting the phone after the new update out make the phone faster? I'm curious as actually rooting the phone voids the warranty right?

rooting in and of itself will not make the phone faster no.
and yeah it voids your warranty but generally speaking there are ways to get rid of root so that they wont know you rooted it

Ok I was just curious about this. I'm getting the Droid x on Monday and I'm seeing that a lot of people "root" their phone. So what exactly does it do? Does it wipe all of the apps that come with it(from Verizon)?

rooting just gives you "super user" permission which allows you to change some things on the phone you normally wouldnt be able to change.

no problem. Enjoy. and like I said if you run into problems or have questions, ask away

I think my whole issue is that if I needed something fixed from Verizon god forbid, do I make the recovery before I root? Or am I able to just go back to default stock?

I think it said I could do it, but I want to be sure. Paying $500 for a phone is garbage city if it voids the warranty and I can't get it back lol.

I've never seen someone able to make a "backup" on a non-rooted phone. atleast not a backup like you can make once you are rooted. (just cause I havnt seen it doesnt mean it cant be done though)
What most people do is grab the "SBF" file from a place like rootzwiki and a program called RSDLite 4.8 with those two things you are able to wipe your phone back to "complete stock" if you mess something up (not in every case though... like currently there is a new leaked version of android going around that doesnt have a SBF file so theres not always a change to fully recover the phone)
my first droid X had a hardware issue so before I sent it back to them for the warranty replacement I used the SBF file to wipe the phone clean so they wouldnt know I had rooted it.
also once you have rooted the phone you can make a good backup with a program called "droid X bootstrapper" so if you for instance install a theme you dont like, you can just go back to your backup to get rid of it.

I hope some of my rambling there made sense

It does make sense and it's more clear. I really hate being a noob and asking all of these probably asked 100 times questions. I'll just keep it one thread however lol.

Now LauncherPro, is that something I need to be rooted for? Or just an app? I guess my main question is that if I root, is that the only way I can get custom themes?

everyone was a noob at some point lol
anyone can download launcher pro, unrooted or rooted. I highly recommend it. I use the "pro" version personally as do a lot of others on this forum.
its not so much a theme as it is a "home launcher" but it is customizable
an actual theme you would have to be rooted to be able to install
EDIT: actually I will say, a theme you have to be rooted and DEODEXED to install

Droid X 2.2 Full SBF leaked - Download now

Great thanks! I'm coming from a BB Storm G1(garbage) and I'm like completely clueless lol. Thanks to the both of you for help and rather quick answers.

I guess it's just different, I'm going from BB to what feels like a fully customizable system. It's going to be different, but I'm totally excited for this. I also will be buying launcher pro on the first day I have the phone, I've read many great things about it.

Also I hope to not confuse you as this is a question that will arise for you....right now there is a leak going around .....2.3.320 ...I would advice staying away from it since your new to this as there is no sbf recovery yet and if something goes wrong you may be screwed until a full sbf is released .....there is a full sbf for 2.3.15 which I assume you have now as most do ....this would be 2.2 froyo....since there is a recovery in the event you mess up and trust me you will you the full sbf to fix your mistake ....more or less read whatever rom it is you want and make sure its not 2.3.320 based ....that is unless you want to go that route .....alot of devs are cross breeding their newer roms for both versions for those of us that don't feel comfortable jumping in the deep end with no vest...sorry to ramble just want you to know the difference

Oh certainly, I don't even have the phone yet, but I'm trying to become as educated as possible. So this is certainly information I need/want to hear.

I'm sure I'll be timid to fully jump in a root a phone until I'm comfortable with this phone. I've just read that the MotoBlur is garbage, and the phone is laggy right out of stock?

yeah I would completely agree. I'm staying away from that build until the full SBF is released.

I agree with both of these statements. moto blur has a few nice things to it but I mostly think its crap and the stock home launcher is really laggy between screens.
Launcher Pro fixes that though

So if I get LauncherPro, I don't even have to root for the time being until I'm comfortable? It removes motoblur's stuff, or just kind of expands on it?

it doesnt really remove it... more like it hides it... almost like it runs over top of the home launcher to cover it all up.
another thing I would recommended is when/if you decide to use launcher pro, remove all of the blur widgets (long press on them and drag them down to the trashcan) from all of the home launchers screens (5 screens if I remember right) otherwise they will continue to run in the background which can slow things up

and yeah you dont have to root until your comfortable rooting

EDIT: and if there is a moto blur widget you like you can also add them on launcher pro

Awesome, I already enjoy this place, I'm glad someone has taken the time to explain these things further for me!

Doesn't delete just gives you a fully customized home launcher that you can play with and it gets rid of lag...it really is great....I would do thus then ease your way into themes then roms
