Help Calendar Sync Issue

Okay I have been searching the forums trying not post something that has been posted a hundred times already, and I can't find an answer. I did find one other post (that I replied to) that was only marginally helpful, because it told me to try everything I've already tried and didn't work. I also contacted Motorola, who told me that the phone shouldn't be doing that so there is no problem. Which was really helpful...

Here is the problem and what I am trying to do:

I have a Droid X. I want to use the calendar, but I do not want it to automatically publish everything to Google calendar. Basically, I don't want it to sync to anything. I've tried unchecking the boxes, I've tried telling it not to sync, and it always reverts back to syncing within a week or so, and everything is back online. The information I store on my phone is confidential and I cannot have it published to the internet. A few of the forum posts have mentioned that there is a "private, unsyncable" calendar with the phone, but I don't see that option on mine. When I go to the calendar list, I only see the one associated with my email (the google calendar), and the US holidays one. I also can't seem to find a place to add a new calendar?

I'm very frustrated. I switched to this from a Blackberry, and while this device is far (FAR) superior to that, this calendar business is almost a deal breaker for me. If I can't use it for my business, it sort of defeats the purpose of having it. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!! And I apologize in advance if this is something that has already been addressed elsewhere.

Try this:

Go to "Settings", Click "Accounts", then select the Google account. It gives you a choice the select whether you want to sync Contacts, Gmail & Calendar.

Hope this works for you.

Thank you for your response, khsjsilver. That's just the problem. When I go in and do that (which I have, multiple times) it still syncs within a few days. Even though the box is not checked, it will still sync. This is where I hit a wall with Morotorla. They said, "It is not supposed to do that. Thank you for your time." Any other ideas???

Keep in mind, we are making sure you are checking all options, so don't get offended if we lead you to something you already know...

That said, go into the app drawer and select calendar, click the far left hard menu key, touch "more", touch "Calendars", touch the circle eye box things on the right until they all say "not synced, not visible".

Thank you, mxsjw. I hope I didn't sound offended, I'm not!! A little desperate maybe :) I really appreciate all your help, and I'm okay with ruling out things that have already been tried. When I do what you have suggested, and I try to enter in a new appointment, it says, "You must synchronize a calendar before creating a new event."

^Huh, you are right, you must be synced to add events. Sounds like what moto told you is wrong.
FYI, you just led me to figure out one of my issues with getting birthdays to sync...thanks. :D

You asked in the 1st post and I missed it about adding another calender. You can add more calendars in Gmail from a desktop. You can also add other email accounts to your phone, if they have calendars, they can be synced too. I also have my hotmail on the X, I added it via a corporate sync so it also gives me the option to use my hotmail calendars too.

I'm assuming you don't want to add your business email to your phone? If you are using outlook, you'd be able to sync with your outlook calendars. I checked out your website and saw your email addy, so again, I'm assuming you are using some other type of email program for business?

Glad I could accidentally be of service :D

I don't really use email for my business (I'm a counselor). My email is through gmail, and it's for personal use only (HIPAA laws and all that...). So really, all I need is to be able to put my appointments in my calendar, and not have them broadcasted all over google. I would still like my email and contacts to sync for personal use, but not my calendar. Maybe I'm asking too much?? :( I would like to make my calendar stay just on my phone, and not sync to anything, ever.

Thank you all again for your help!!

I agree, I can't be the only one who doesn't want their calendar to sync, though every post I've found has been about wanting the calendar to sync. I downloaded the "Offline Calendar App", which is what I'm using, but it's really inferior to the stock calendar. It's getting me by (sort of), but I'd really like to be able to use the one with the phone. I feel like there has to be a way to make it work. My brother has the same phone, and says his calendar doesn't automatically sync ever. And another poster said that all calendar events get added to the phone's "private calendar", and that you have to indicate that you want it to be on the Google calendar. But I haven't figured out how to do that, or where this elusive "private calendar" is located.

Okay!!! I might have found a solution - for anyone else who is in the same boat as me. Fliq Calendar app (free from the Marketplace) does not appear to have the ability to sync to anything without also downloading their special "Missing Sync App". However, the calendar seems to work just fine without it. So in theory, if I don't download that extra app, it won't sync, right?? I feel like I just won the lottery!!!! Thanks for all of your help with this!!
