Root [ROM] UD 2.3!!! Hot of the presses!

I decided to try out the stock launcher...baaad idea. Lots of problems so back to Launcher Pro Plus! Other than that, so far so good! Love the lockscreen messaging button, although it can be a little slow sometimes...I have a question about kernels though. My Droid loves the LFY kernels. Can anyone tell me what would happen if I installed one of those over this ROM? Thanks!

I don't think that would cause any issues. Easy enough to test though. Just backup your current ROM/kernel. Then flash the LFY kernel and see what happens. Reverting back is a two-minute process if things go wrong.

I've held off 2.3 as I only just flashed 2.1 when it came out. It truly flies, that's for sure, and I've always loved the customizations. My only real quirk is the battery life. I've been using the stock kernel as it's more than enough, but perhaps a diff one would help.

My question is have people, specifically users who bounce around diff ROMs, experienced poor battery life with 2.3 and did it improve from 2.1?

I can't seem to figure this out...Can someone tell me the name of the element I highlighted in the screenshot, black text over black isn't too effective. I thought I'd tried all of the UI elements in UD settings, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Like someone recently posted here, battery life is really subjective. I could use my phone in such a manner(I am running 2.1 UD)as to have the battery only last 4 hours or last, or I could use it in a manner to make the battery last 15 hours. Using the stock kernel. What I do to prolong battery life is to keep the screen as dark as I can. I don't use Bluetooth, wireless or GPS, so they are off, unless I need them, which is rare. My point is that everyone uses their phone in a different manner, therefor I have always believed that no matter what kernel/rom you use, you can get good/poor battery life :p

Yes, you're very correct. However, I do know the majority of the available tweaks and tricks that most ROMs offer to conserve as much battery life as possible. I'm coming off a series of ROMs that offered really good to pretty great battery life, and there is a very significant difference with this ROM. It's not too uncommon, as that has been the one thing that has kept UD ROMs from being 5 star on my Droid since the update to Froyo (man, when we were on 2.1 UD was, without question, the best ROM available).

I'm experiencing pretty abysmal battery life right now with 2.1 and I was wondering if anyone noticed the same thing, but saw improvements from it on 2.3.

i've had the best battery life by far with 2.3 and the nightlies...

not at first, though. the first time I flashed my battery would drop insanely fast, and then I'd plug it in and it would be fully charged within 10 minutes. so in clockwork mod recovery, under the advanced section, you can wipe battery stats. I did that, and ever since then my battery life has been as good as ever.

and i'm using p3droid 1.0 ghz kernel on performance mode, fyi...couldn't be happier

How does one get access to dl the nightlies? I think the 12/1 nightly fixes one of my issues...

Go to http://theultimatedroid.com and register for an account. Then click on the subscribe button on the top menu and pay the $2 with PayPal. Then click on forums and scroll down until you find the nightly builds. Click on Motorola Droid and choose the one you want. The OP has the link to the file in the download manager.

I highly suggest it. It is cheap and the nightly builds are really cool.

2.1 started to get a lil buggy on me, kinda lagging in weird areas. Actually, I'm not sure I can call it lag, sort of like freezing up. Happened a lot while typing, be it text, browser, search, whatever. But this morning, it wouldn't let me press anything, but I could swipe down my notification bar and switch screens.

So yeah, I'm diving into 2.3. Seems alright so far. Gotta put this baby through the ringer.
