Help Captivate Froyo texts random people

I recently updated my new Captivate to the leaked Android 2.2 (Froyo) update and I love it. Except for the small fact that sometimes when I go to text someone, I'll type in what I want, and press send. But when I press send.. it opens up someone else's thread and sends the text to them. Anyone know a fix for this? Much appreciated if you do!

This is a huge bug with froyo; if I remeber correctly, if you get a text and reply, if you get a new text while you are typing the reply and either look at or select the other text, it will send the text you are typing to the new person and not the person you are texting to; or something like that. Just search for captivate froyo sms issues; there is a lot out there on it. I don't remeber what the fix was

By the way, welcome to the forum,

This has happened with various updates on lots of phones, not just Froyo.

I think you may find that some spam texts can induce this problem, too.

As I recall, just clearing out your text messages resets the threading (indexing, etc) and tends to stop the problem - in general.

If it gets really bad, do a full backup of your phone, a factory reset, and restore your backup. That tends to clear the hidden caches where this sort of trouble also tends to lurk.

Here's the instructions on how to do that for the Evo - see what you think, follow your nose, and decide if you want to give it a shot.

And in any case, maybe a good idea to check out SMS Backup & Restore or SMS BACKUP (free versions in the Market) pretty quickly - or MyBackup Pro (paid app - but this is your data we're talking about).

But I thought all the beta Froyo ROMs for the Captivate were bug-free and "flawless"? :D

In seriousness, just another item on the list. Best to stick with the official ROMs if you want a bug-free experience. They might have their issues too, but it's not the crazy buggy wild west that is the leaked builds. An official Android 2.2 actually designed around the Captivate's slightly-different hardware is coming.

I think people rooting and trying custom roms know when they're trying bleeding edge and when not.

I also think that most Android groups wise up quickly to the root nandroid backup and share that technique - so you can try a bleeding edge rom and if it's too buggy, switch back to stock stable in literally seconds.

The Wild West part cracks me up - it'll crack you up too if you go to YouTube and search for "Walt Mosspuppet Android" - cheers.
