Hi guys
I'm new to android from iphone. On iPhone I used pocket informat
Which worked well.
But on android it doesn't have a widget yet so am also using pure
Calendar and android agenda widget apps

Plus have just added gemini calendar for day of week date picker.

So I agree. You do seem to need a lot of apps just to get a decent
Calendar! :-D

Cheers

I apologize if this was covered earlier in the thread, but are any of these calendar suggestions able to sync with Exchange. I fell victim to the dreaded time out error with the native android calendar app and have been forced to use touchdown. I would love to have a standalone calendar app that did not require me to enter my mail app to access it.

Are you saying that you can't use touchdown to access your calendar with inputting your pw each time? I use touchdown too, which, first of all, I LOVE!. Second of all, I have no problems accessing any of my data as long as I don't have wi-fi/data problems.

While on the subject of Touchdown, here's my review:

I was a previous Palm user for 10 years. Palm got it right in so many ways with their PDA system. I was lukewarm about the stock organizing apps on both iphone and android. Agenda widget did not impress me and seemed a bit tedious. Further, non of the free apps I tried were robust enough.

I needed an app which worked like Microsoft Outlook, but on my phone. When I found Touchdown to be more of a mobile Microsoft Outlook system, I was quite pleased. I needed something that had powerful corporate email ability, and that would maintain a lot of the functionality that I so appreciated about my Palm phones. In detail, I needed something that tied in contacts, emails, tasks, and tasks associated with emails (flagged items).

I also seriously needed a calendar capable of more than light lifting, and is easy to use on my phone. A lot of calendars I saw were pretty vanilla in terms of their usage, seemingly marketed toward the light and casual schedule keepers. Touchdown's calendar is very robust, and even uses a readable 7-day view of all scheduled items and times.

A nice bonus is that color schemes are followed between Outlook and Touchdown's calendar. I color code all of my calendared items to differentiate between travel time, prep time, meetings, placeholders, and unscheduled tasks. Touchdown nicely mirrors this color system, although in different colors.

Their calendar widgets are nice, easily viewable, and come in all shapes and sizes.

The only drawback, albeit slight, is the $20 price tag. I'm used to considering "app prices," which run only a few shillings. I had to remind myself that this is really like a mobile outlook program that I can use forever, which helped.

Touchdown! Score!

Don't see Touchdown (or BC) on the Market. Is it available for 1.6 in Europe?

My big question is why someone can't just replicate Palm OS, and if Touchdown is the answer, that's great.

I used Memo on Palm OS quite a bit, as well as Notes attached to calendar entries ("description" doesn't compare) and "no time" option for calendar entries. Etc. And a desktop application to see all these things in one place. (sigh) How I miss these things. The only benefit I have so far is the sync on-line with Google, which I do like, but I'd much rather hit the sync button a few times a day and have the Palm OS functions back.

Calengoo looks nice, but mine does not sync correctly. Sometimes syncs nothing, sometimes only partial data. Not impressive.

Love the look of Calendar Pad day view, but can't edit entries? And no default day view?

Generally for many of these apps: have to revert to another app to create/edit/delete entries?

Sometimes can't delete entries at all, or it takes 5 buttons (iRT).

I'm new to Android, and have experience nothing but Palm for the past 5 years, and it's hard to believe that we are all struggling to find what we really need.

Hi
BC is on market but not sure about version?

I agree. There is a big opening for a really good calendar app with good Widgets and sync
Etc. But don't know if android is the right platform for it? Ie it sort of supports the
Everyone doing a bit here and a bit there approach.
Cheers

I sympathize. As a Palm user for like 10+ years, I sorely miss DateBk6 now that I'm on Android.

Some savvy Android developer needs to take a look at DateBk6, start with that feature set and functionality as a baseline, and run from there making use of Android's expanded abilities. There's a huge untapped market opportunity here.
It's coming, trust me, from the developer of Datebk6. Really. :)

Does anyone l know of a good calendar app with the option of NOT syncing to anything? I have a Blackberry Curve, which had a calendar that would stay put on the phone and not sync to anything online. Now I have a Droid X, and I can't for the life of me figure out ow to keep my calendar appointments from going online. This has been an ongoing problem and none of the things that should be working to stop it from syncing work. I'm looking for a separate app that has the option to turn off syncing (and stay off). I am using Offline Calendar, but it's really not very good. Any ideas??

Unless I'm reading your question wrong - you can go into your account settings you can disable calendar sync.

Hi-I recently downloaded the beta Pocket Informant. Definitely not as robust as the WinMo version I loved, but pretty good, does many things people have been complaining they can't do (copy and paste appointments, all sorts of repeat patterns). It's in beta, no widget yet. Also looks nice, has a good task section. I'm using Jorte and the Launcher Pro Plus widget, alternating with PI. Wondering if others have tried PI, what impressions are.

There are MANY calendar recommendations and MANY posts to read through. I'll try to make this short and sweet.

I want a calendar app that I can use in place of the stock Moto Droid 2 app. If it syncs with the stock app, fine. If not, fine. But I would like something that can sync with MS Outlook PC Version, not exchange server. If the app syncs with the stock app and then to gmail online, that's fine since I use Google Sync to sync with outlook.

My BIGGEST complaint about the stock app...no individual snooze options. I want someting where I can choose how long to snooze.

So that's it...configurable snooze and somehow sync with Outlook. I guess I don't mind if I have to pay a little.

Thanks.

I use calendar snooze free as my reminder and snooze for my calendar. It seems to have a lot of customise options and it's not something you have to configure for each event. You set it's global settings and then it does the work. Have a look at it. I just use the free version. That should solve the snooze problem I reckon.

I just tried out business calendar. I'm not so impressed. For example, I change the start time/date, it keeps the end time/date fixed. So to move an appointment by a day, I have to change both end dates. And the repeat options are exactly the same as on my stock Droid X calendar (not sure whether that's from motorola or google--it says "Calendar" and "Build version 2.2")

Then I tried Touchdown. Much better options for setting up repeating events--great. But then I tried to edit a repeating event. The "edit series" option did nothing--it was like that function didn't exist. The "edit event" option appeared to work, but when I saved it, the event disappeared.

But I was psyched about touchdown because of its capability to do everything--notes as well as calendar and contacts. So I checked out the notes. No capability to categorize them, as far as I can tell. I have 200 notes in 10 categories in my Palm. I wouldn't be able to find them without categories.

So it looks like my notes will be headed towards JadeNote and SimpleNote for notes....and maybe Jorte or calengoo for calendar....

Just tried calengoo. None of the same problems---looks nice. Only bug was that I had to tell the phone to sync under accounts, rather than telling calengoo to synch, which seemed to do nothing.

I also tried Jorte, but the repetition options in Calengoo seem much better.

Calengoo might be it for me then...
