A month ago I bought 2 Samsung captivates at the same time. Tonight while messing with the one I gave my Fiancee, I notice her Market was different from mine. Hers says it is version 1714, mine says 2002012.

I couldn't find any thing on the web other than there are a few android phones, non samsung, that are also stuck at 1714, and that 2012 is the latest version.

Any ideas on how to update?

Doesn't the Market update itself if your phone supports the update?

Have you rooted? Maybe you need to re-flash the newest gapps for your device.

If not, try just installing a couple of apps, update things, just muck about for a while. That's how I got my phone to do the update, it should download and update itself. It probably won't even tell you.

Phone is not rooted. She has installed 5-6 apps all ready. I tried teh tup on Googles Android Market support. That too did not work. I guess I'll have to reset the phone.

I'm not running any leaked beta and I got the updated market.

Mystery to me, my friend. I'm rooted - you?

Well, that's where the weirdness comes in. I un-rooted yesterday (something funky was happening so I was trying to see if that was causing any problems). Then I got the update... then I re-rooted afterwards.

Did you try doing a force stop on the market? I'm realizing that I saw the change after I had done the above steps and did a force stop on the market application...

Tried a force stop but it didn't "take." In all the months I've been rooted it hasn't affected anything I've done or had done (e.g., firmware update). Since z4root is an easy process I'll unroot to see if it makes a difference.

Is updating the Market now a world-changing experience? No, but it's my nature to solve these types of mysteries.

I think I figured it out (hand slapping forehead). I'm running a beta 4 pre-release version of Gingerbread, so all bets are off and my Market looks markedly different to begin with. Stupid me.

Nah. Better not cause a ruckus. No Gingerbread in sight.

Unrooted - still no luck. I'd say it's strange, but with AT&T and Samsung strange is normal operating procedure.

tried everything I could find. Even did a factory reset. Still will not update to latest version. For the record, my other phone that was purchased at the same time, upgrade to the lasted version 2002013?? what ever the version is with the Relate tab. Apparently, according to Google Android support, this is a big problem. Not just a Samsung issue.
