...duh! It IS new, isn't it!? This will be my first "real" smart phone and I'm looking forward to the "challenge". I perused this forum Friday, and quite frankly, the answers to the questions are pretty much what swayed me to the "S" AND to join this site/forum. ALL of the replies were thoughtful, with as much info that seemed available(again, relatively new device). I look forward to learning, then hopefully, in the future, helping!

Now, I have to get some sleep, then I'll jump more head-long into learning and using the "S"!

Enjoy...g'night!

i think you will enjoy this phone, this is my second smartphone, the first was the HTC Hero. I'm liking the Optimus a lot, is faster and has Froyo 2.2. I choose it over the evo since I did not want to pay and extra 10$ for not having 4g in my area, plus another 200$ for the phone, also it is a little bulky to lung around work.
These forums are great and the people go out of their way to help out with questions about the phone.
I just got quicksetting which let me use the 3g hot spot with my net book, great free apps!!
Good luck with your new phone.

True; I already am! I really wanted a physical QWERTY, but when the S ended-up "free", the was no true option.
Something the sales assoc told me was the $10 isn't for 4G, it's for the "data". This was the first I'd heard that, and they actually have 4 sm's that get the extra charge...whatever.
And a big YES about the people here. This is one of the main reasons I joined; what seems to be a group of people who want to help and don't get "unruly". It seems to be nice here.

Thanks...and you too!

Galo- I'm not a techie. But I live by these forums. I use the EVO and my wife picked up the optimus on black Friday. One main concern for users is the lack of notification led lights. I resolved this by downloading "flash notify". It flashes the screen when u miss a call or text message. You can set the frequency of the flash (every 30 sec, 60 sec, etc) and the duration (15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, 2 hours, or never meaning it will only stop after u see it) it will also sound a notification if u want and is a shortcut to texting. It does not notify u of e-mail. Hope this helps. Any more questions or problems this is the place to fix them. This forum has saved me many trips to the sprint store.

Thanks 1D1OT (I love that :D)...I'll check-out "flash notify", especially for my wife, but don't messenges appear at the top of the screen in the "notifications" area with an "M" and email with the "tape" icon? I realize no flashing or glowing lights, but...
And my S displays the "battery charging" icon in the notifications area(by the time) too, and if the phone is off, just push the "Home" button and the "charging battery" appears.

Nice pic J!

This sounds like a very useful app for the Optimus S. I wonder how it would affect the battery life?

I don't think it will drain that much. It flashes quickly and not real bright
and your screen goes back to sleep. Also most people look at their phones often enough that it probably will save more battery than actvating the screen all the time to check for a message that isn't there

You should download Missed Call if you want to be notified of a missed call or sms or anything for that matter on say a 2 min, 5, min intervals etc. Or get Handcent for just SMS reminders that way you dont have to activate your phone at all to check.

True though I wish there was a notification LED and also a track ball but besides that this phone is awesome!
