Root Google launches Gingerbread!

I've read a few articles about Gingerbread possibly being released today. How long before a ROM is released?

yes, it was annoucned today.

no way to know when a ROM based on the 2.3 will be available AND.. for the D1 phones, the suggested recommended phone hardware requirements leaked months ago (512mb internal mem and 1ghz speed) would make it not possible to even run on the D1 unless those smarty-pants devs can find work around. We know we can do +1ghz... but we do not have 512 onboard mem. So maybe a swap file or maybe it will not even matter as those were just "recommended" phone specs, not sure yet as the SDK is just now out so details should stat to roll out.

IIRC, there has been a lot of confusion about the numbering system and people thought, early on, Gingerbread would get a full numerical jump when in fact, it stays in the 2.x range. That being said, I am pretty sure those specs I mention were for Gingerbread which is 2.3 and was also thought to be 3.0 by some in the beginning.

Google "Android 3.0" and you will see it tied with both "Gingerbread" and thus now it is clear, 2.3

I was always under the impression that Gingerbread was Android 2.3 (coming out later this year) and Honeycomb was Android 3.0 (coming out sometime late next year)...

But yes I can't wait for a devs to start working on a ROM for us D1 users

Might be bad news for stock users, but if you are rooted and it is true the devs will prob just get around it by using a 1ghz kernel standard. I'm not worried about it
