Eris calender

I am thinking of getting an Eris, but am concerned about the calender. I am a therapist and need the calender not only to make reoccurring appointments, but I often need to change one of the occurances while keeping the rest in tact. Is this possible to do with the Eris? When I went to the Verizon store, they told me the calender wasn't taht sophisticated and that I should stick with my Blackberry.

I use my google calendar and use it a lot. I have yet to have a problem with anything relating to my calendar. Not sure on reoccurring appointments, never tried it, but check the google calendar online.

Yes you can.

I just tried it on my ERIS and I had several Google Calendar events set up, when I opened one of the recurring events on the phone and selected edit, the following options came up...Change only this event, Change all events in this series, Change this and all future events.

That being said, coming from Palm, while the calendar does a decent job it is the one disappointment with the ERIS I have, but I am not that dependent on it. It is a great phone otherwise.

What do you need the calendar to do? Lets us know and we can let you know if these things are possible.

You are able to create reoccurring appointments and change/delete one or all. You can set up multiple calendars for different types of events. For instance I have three Google calendars; one for myself, one for my Wife and I, and one for my kids. All sync between Google calendar and my phone. There are multiple widgets that allow you to display the calendar on your home screen in just about every size and display type (monthly, weekly, daily, or agenda).

That's really helpful. I was told at Verizon that this wasn't possible. I use Outlook for my calender. How difficult is it to sync between the two?
Also, I noticed in another post that someone said you weren't able to sync Tasks and Notes...

Hi, former BB user here, I have another calendar question: With my BB calendar, I was able to set appointments on a bi-weekly basis (i.e. I have a business meeting every other Wednesday). I have not found a way to do this with the Eris/Google. Am I missing something?

Go to gmail.com on the computer and then click on Calendar. When you add a new event, such as "meeting" for friday, you can click on "edit event details". Then select "repeats weekly". Then you can select Repeats every 1 - 30 weeks (you'll get a drop-down menu).

Then sync with your phone and you're good to go.

In case you don't know how to force a sync with your phone, from the home screen, click Menu -> Settings -> Data Synchronization -> Google -> then make sure Calendar is checked...and press Menu -> Sync now

You can create single events on the devise and delete/change events on the devise. Any reoccurring event have to be done online ... I suppose you could do that on the browser on the device. There may also be some calendar apps that allow you to do it on the device, not sure though

eilee...thetomlin2 is correct. I don't see a way to make the event recurring from the phone. I tried using the mobile web version of Calendar, but it would only let me edit the time, but not make it recurring. *** Edit: whoops, see davbak's reply for instructions on how to make events recurring ***

I'm sure there are many other Calendar apps out there to try from the Market. The beauty of having an Android phone is all the free and/or cheap programs available.

There are apps that sync Tasks, Notes...do a general search for "exchange" and "outlook", and you'll get lots of threads to look at.

There is one called Touchdown that costs $10 that gets a lot of positive talk here...

Anyone have trouble losing the little dog ear marks on their calendar from time to time on the HTC full calendar widget? My reminders/appoint ments are still there but I have to select a day to see them. If I remove the calendar widget and re-add it the calendar marks come back.

When you're setting up a new event, at the very bottom of the screen (scroll down) there is a "Repeat" drop down. Your options are One-time event, Daily, Every weekday, Weekly, Monthly , or Yearly.

I had the same problem ... there is even a thread about it, no one has found a fix. I dont use it anymore and instead use an adgenda type widget for the calendar, and I like it a lot more. Here is a link to the widget, it is free of charge.

Try viewing it in agenda instead of single day view. Agenda will allow you to view a list of events for the week.

Yeah, I do that now but when I'm trying to see the best time to schedule future appointments, I'd find it easier to slide back and forth.
I am both organizationally challenged and a little lazy. So anything that makes calendars easier is good for me.

To clarify what davbak said about creating re-occuring events, you can create an event and apply those default frequencies that he mentioned but you cannot use custom patterns or set an end date. But then you can edit all of that in Google Calendar on a computer and it will sync with your phone.

Anybody figured out how to change the date of one occurence of a recurring appointment on the phone? I also have the Eris. Let's say I have a recurring appointment that happens every Tuesday, but for this week ONLY, I want to change it to Wed. If I say that I want to edit only that occurence, it will let me highlight the date, but nothing I do on the device will allow me to change it. I've tried clicking, long presses, everything I can think of. I'm sure I could change it on the computer, but I need this calendar on my phone to be pretty self-sufficient. If I had my computer with me all the time, I wouldn't need a calendar on my phone. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a recurring event on my calendar for tonight, actually. I clicked on it in the Agenda view, and it showed me the event details. When I clicked "Menu", then chose "Edit", it popped up a menu which asked "Change only this event", "Change all events in the series", or "Change this and all future events."

Are you seeing something different?

No, I see that, but if you click on "change only this event," then try to change the date of that one occurence and tell me what happens. I'm unable to select the date to change it. Thanks.

It looks like you have to change the "repeat" option from "weekly" to "one time event" in order to change the date.
