Dumb Comments/Ratings in App Market

Anyone else notice an abundance of stupid comments in the market place comments or really low star ratings due to the user being a moron?

Like i will look at comments for a widget and everyone gives it 5 stars but the people that say, "I don't know how to install or place a widget, 1 star." Ummm so because you are too dumb to know you long press in an empty area of the screen and say place widget the app is only one star...no that is cause you are a moron. Not the apps fault. RTFM!!!

Once again everyone gives app 5 stars but people who go, "I bought this app, would be great if it did XXXX or XXXX, but it doesn't so 1 star." Wait so the app does everything it is supposed to per its description, but because it doesn't do something it isn't supposed to do or advertised to do and it gets a low rating. Uhhh, ok so if i buy a Ferarri i should only rate it 1 star because it doesn't travel through time? What, i know it isn't advertised to, but i want it to. Or i bought a Cheeeseburger from BK, one star, it doesn't do my homework for me. Once again, it isn't supposed to do that nor does it say it should. Rate the ****ing app on what it does and says it is supposed to do, not what you WANT it to do.

A live wallpaper app, everyone gives 4 or 5 stars, except the "My phone can't work live wallpapers, 1 star." So because you bought a piece of crap phone that can't do live wallpapers, the app that works for everyone who can handle them, should only get 1 start? What the ****?

Dev specifically says this app will not work on XXXX and XXXX devices, do not download and try. Then you see the "App doesn't work on my device, 1 star" and they list the same device the Dev said it will not work with. Hi, it said it won't work with it. Read the freaking description first before downloading you dolt.

I get so annoyed by the dumb ratings or comments people put in the market. I can't flag them as spam, cauase they aren't spam, just idiots who fail to be of use to society.

Anyone else notice this kind of crap? It drives me insane. Like just insane. I like reading comments before downloading an app. I wnt to know what others think, especially those who also use the same device i do so i know whether it will work or not. I just can't stand people who lower an apps overall rating cause they are too stupid or ignorant to rate it properly

You forgot the ones who get upset because they can't find live wallpapers in the app drawer.
And another one that drives me wild is the people who downrate book cataloguing apps because they don't know that most paperbacks have the ISBN barcode inside the front cover and not on the back.

Oh, and my particular pet peeve - those who complain about perfectly reputable ebook reader apps because they don't come complete with a supply of "recent" (read "pirated") books.

It isn't just the Android Market, it is every stinking site that allows customer's comments. Just look at Amazon, the number of drooling morons is appalling. Even in relatively tech-centric sites like Newegg you get a lot of comments from people who obviously have no business buying the parts they're buying.

This is exactly why companies like Apple thrive. The capabilities of technology have so far outstripped the ability of your average person to deal with it that they will pay a huge premium to be put in a straight-jacket and locked away in a softly padded room where they can safely rely on that stuff between their ears to do nothing but provide structural support.

This has been a problem since the beginning of the appstore on iOS. I agree, it's stupid, but if the app is good enough, the positive feedback SHOULD outweigh the idiots (notice I didn't say negative LOL!) I generally see 5 star apps (that trule deserve 5 stars without the idiot ratings average in) going at 4-4.5 stars, so the system is still good as far as giving you an idea how many people like it. The problem is that there is no choice to not give a rating but just post about it. If people were given the choice to just not rate something but say "hey, I don;t know how to work this" it might help. I can see why someone that can't get something to run properly, even due to their own ignorance, might not want to give it fve stars just to comment, but it is equally unfair to automatically give it one star.

And I know it's expecting too much, but it would be nice if there were screening processes for comments on YouTube, CNN and all the news media. I abhor having to wade through pages of childish sniping to find some genuinely usable/interesting commentary.

That or the comments on the intensive 3D games that are all 1 star because they're using a MyTouch or a Cliq or something.

It's your fault you sprung for a 3 year old, worn out, beaten down, and slow phone, not the developers. That is the equivalent of saying 'Battlefield Bad Company 2 sucks ass because it won't run on my Windows ME machine. It says insufficient resources. Why doesn't it just work??? DO NOT BUY!!"

People, please. I know you have no significant brain power for anything aside from life-essential functions like breathing, and some of the more taxing tasks like mashing buttons, but please! Struggle with all the mentality you can muster, and read! Letter by letter! Read damnit!!

I fully agree, only the IQ test should be administered before they buy the *PHONE*, not before they post a comment on an app. My favorite saying about some of the more idiotic Sprint customers I dealt with is that if an IQ test was required to determine the device they qualified for, we'd see an awful lot of people walking around with 2 tin cans and some string.

Of course, I also think an IQ test should be required before breeding is allowed. Just sayin .....

I generally just look at a majority of the reviews. if most people seem to like it and report that it works well, its usually worth a shot. Anytime you let people free to share their opinion, someone is bound to bash it. Even if you look at a Ferrari forum, someone has a problem with something haha. If its a popular app, its worth taking a peek on the forum, as its probably been discussed here plenty of times

It all evens out more or less. Every app will have its share of people who do not know what they are talking about. I think that the majority will provide useful comments and proper ratings.

I don't even have to go that far. I see it at work every day. Oh, the joys of working in a call center. You'd think that if you were paying someone $30/month for a service, you'd at least know what you have included. And if you're *NOT* paying that $30/month, you'd know enough to not call us to ask for help and then complain that we won't help you. Sheesh.

i have seen that two or three times now. It is like, uh you aren't required to DL the update, it is your CHOICE. Hell just set it for auto update and whenever you reboot it will do the update for you.

I swear everytime i find an amazing app, some idiot has DL'd it and made a comment that made me think there really is little hope for humanity. LOL

I really hate it when that type of "writing" escapes the environments where it *might* be necessary. Unfortunately, I think the Market *might* be one of those places. The number of characters you can use in a comment seems unnecessarily low. I sometimes find it necessary to get creatively terse with comments in order to squeeze in what I want to say, but I've never had to resort to using non-words.

Excellent topic. This is a pet peeve of mine. I am an avid reader of this forum, and I rarely post anything, but this topic brought me out.

The comments I hate are for the Instant Messaging apps. Everyone uses the comments area to post their newly created handle in hopes that they can use the app to hook up for some sexting. Some of the comments are worse than what is found on Craigslist. To me this is worse than a moron that can't figure out how to use an app. You are a big time loser if you are searching for a relationship by posting comments/ratings in the market. Keep your relationships out of the comments area people!
