I know the Dec community will soon enough have gingerbread running on most of the top selling smartphone, but for someone like who chooses not to root, does anyone know or think that HTC will release an official update? That's considering that the N1 will be getting the update soon and the desire is its brother, besides the desire is fast enough and new enough to run the new version. I would be very disappointed if HTC decide not to update the desire.

Thanks in advance.

In this article Gingerbread ROMs start cooking for HTC EVO 4G et al; keyboard ported for rooted Androids -- Engadget it says March for HTC. Where they got their source from, I don't know, and Engadget maybe just be spreading whispers, but it is a rumour, and March wouldn't be to far off I don't think.

im not fussed really, there isnt apparently too much difference between 2.2.1 and 2.3
adamG has already prebaked an alpha ginger bread rom call gingerninja.
lots of things not working but the point is, the community is rapid and will have one up very quickly

Absolutely, the update to 2.2 (for Flash) was a big one, this isn't so major for me personally. I can wait until a Custom Rom is available for sure:eek:

HTC Desire Android 2.3 update
We've contacted HTC to find out when Android 2.3 will be coming to the HTC Desire (and the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desire Z).
HTC responded on 7 December to confirm that a number of its phones will be receiving Android 2.3.
"We are excited about the OS update coming for Android, and while HTC will definitely have some phones running this OS, we do not have a specific timeframe for new phones or updates at this time. Please stay tuned for more details," said an HTC spokesperson.
Still no official word on the Desire, but we have to wonder whether the smartphone star is included in "some phones".

Nothing offical in terms of dates, but just passing the message on.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but past and present Hero owners know what I'm talking about.

(hint: 1.5 --> 2.1)

Yep. ...and I am disappointed that the Hero 2.1 official release had things missing if compared to the desire's 2.1 Stupid things like stock messaging app, the inability to set sms / mms thread limits...

I mean seriously, why ommit that?
