Dear androidforum

I recently bought a nexus one but i decided to increase its memory so it could replace my ipod touch. now i found a very appealing ad on ebay and i managed to get one for 36 euro incl shipping.

problem is that it seems to tag every mp3 I put on it as uncompatible. when i browsed androidforums i saw some posts with same symptoms so i think i may be faked.

product was a 32GB MicroSDHC Class 4 card by Kingston and came in believable blister-packing.

this was the ad: KINGSTON 32GB MICRO SDHC CARD WITH ADAPTER UK STOCK!!! on eBay (end time 26-Nov-10 19:48:01 GMT)
payment has been done by via Paypal

and after testing it with H2testw, this was the result:
Code:
Warning: Only 31660 of 31980 MByte tested.
The media is likely to be defective.
7 MByte OK (14336 sectors)
30.9 GByte DATA LOST (64825344 sectors)
Details:0 KByte overwritten (0 sectors)
0 KByte slightly changed (< 8 bit/sector, 0 sectors)
30.9 GByte corrupted (64825344 sectors)
0 KByte aliased memory (0 sectors)
First error at offset: 0x0000000000000008
Expected: 0x0000000000000011
Found: 0x0000000000000000
H2testw version 1.3
Writing speed: 7.26 MByte/s
Reading speed: 8.76 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
(when i tested it there was still some data on it)

could anyone give me some advice on what to do next?

Yep get a refund! If they ask you to ship it back do a claim through paypal. You should not have to pay for shipping on a defective item.

Just a note: If you can get the seller to send you a return label, better. Make sure you save the TRACKING NUMBER, it is very important.

Worst case, if you have to go through PayPal, and the seller is not cooperative - PayPal will agree that if you pay the cost of shipping, the seller MUST give you a refund as soon as the item is received. PayPal needs a tracking number that shows something went from your address to the seller's address for this.

(I sell through eBay/PayPal frequently)

Actually, thank you. I found a 32GB Kingston "Class 6" on cragislist that I was going to go check out later this week. I figured for $60 it was worth a shot, right?

Well, now that I know a believable packaging blister doesn't guarantee a trusty product, I don't think I will even make the trip and waste my gas.

If you can bring your phone or something that you can plug it into to make sure that it truly is 32GB then it would be worth it. Make sure you let the seller know you'll be checking PRIOR to purchasing it though, whether it's sealed or not. The ones I got on eBay were sealed with what looked like genuine Kingston wrapping but they were only 2GB.

I would say open the claim. They might try and say that it's not in the "same condition" so you might as well open up a dispute in PayPal. Keep working with the seller but having the dispute open helps.

Send it back, but SAVE your tracking #, PayPal will ask for this.

If the seller doesn't give you a refund, you can escalate the dispute and PayPal will most likely pull money out of the seller's account to refund you.

lesson learned definately, but first get this solved.

as i said before; seller wants his item returned in same condition as sent wich is:
Code:
Item specifics
Condition:
New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full

as i removed it from package it teechnically isnt in same condition.. may this be a problem?

That's why you need to open the dispute with PayPal!

The seller can't get you on a technicality they invented.

Open the claim, PayPal will say as long as you return it (TRACKING # Important!) you will get your money back. Whether the seller wants to or not PayPal will pull money from their account and refund you.

Open the claim, tell them it was false advertising, "the item is not as described". Escalate the claim to PayPal (allow PayPal to make the decision).

At this point you can even send an empty box, as long as there is a tracking number showing a package from your address to the sellers you should still get your refund. (Please do not send an empty box, that's just mean.)

I was duped and sold 54 of those Kingston chips on eBay. When another seller informed me he'd gotten fakes, I tested what stock I had. Every one was a fake. I IMMEDIATELY issued a recall to EACH buyer and refunded purchase price and return shipping if they asked for it. One buyer responded with profanity and feedback extortion threat which I reported to eBay. This was before he received the item even. I told him i would refund when I got the chip back. He said he sent it back Dec 20, when tracking showed it delivered. He issued a complaint with PayPal and they suspended the transaction (Held funds) BUT told him he had to send it back to get the refund and have tracking proof of delivery.
Checking the USPS tracking number showed he then mailed it back Dec 29(9 days after he said he'd returned it). The day I received it back, I settled the claim and he had his money back. And even though he'd threatened feedback extortion, Ebay allowed his negative feedback to stand. All of the rest of the feedback received for the items sold and recalled was positive (with one neutral). I did have a 100% feedback score until he came along.
All that to say, YES file the claim. You have a limited time to make those claims.
I filed a claim on the supplier who sold me the items because I used paypal. I got refunded on 2 shipments and am still fighting to get the third.
Last point, somewhere in researching about fakes, I read where someone had actually contacted Kingston and was told that they don't make that chip yet. I have an email contact into Kingston customer support to see if I can get that verified.
I have an Android powered tablet with 2 microSD slots. I will use the 16GB micros, thank you.

BTW, check out the eBay ME section for more details on the above mentioned buyer, if you're interested.
