Help Can anyone help me with this annoying gallery issue?

Alright so here's my problem. When I open the photo gallery, you know how it shows the thumbnail image of a stack of pictures with your newest picture on top for each folder; 'Camera Roll', 'Folders', 'All Photos', 'All videos' etc.? Well upon opening the gallery, the thumbnail image for the 'Camera Roll' Folder does not show up. The 'Camera Roll' label is there, but the thumbnail of the stack of images is not behind it. This makes me not be able to click it or open that folder. If I get out of the gallery and get back in, all is normal.

This happens almost everytime upon initial opening of the gallery, especially if I have just taken a new photo. Gallery will work fine, I take a new picture, get out of Camera, go to gallery, and that first thumbnail of the stack of images is gone again. I have cleared the data for the gallery app, rebooted, but to no avail. I can't imagine what would cause this or how to fix it. I posted a similar thread to another forum and got 2 responses, both from people who said they had the same issue, but no fix. Pleeeease let me know if you have any ideas. I'd really appreciate it and immediately wire you 10,000 US dollars for being a genius. haha.

Warning: (I may not actually wire you any money) But I would love you forever.

Thanks guys

Geez I didn't realize it was so widespread haha. Is there anyone who doesn't have the issue? Or anyone who had it but managed to figure out a way to get rid of it? I'm worried that it proabably won't get addressed in the next update and that there probably won't be another update after that one. I'm glad it's not just me with the issue. It's not a huge deal, it still works if you close out and get back in, it's more annoying than anything.

Sounds like a corrupt sd card.

Any one try this?

turn off the phone and remove the sd card
using a usb adapter, plug the adapter in a computer
back up the sd card to the computer
format the card
restore the backed up files
click on the "safely remove" option in the computer
remove from the computer
reinsert the sd card in the phone
power up the phone.

I don't have a way to plug the sd card into my computer, but could you just format the card within the phone? Thing is I have done this before, not to get rid of this issue, but I did it after the froyo update along with a factory reset. I haven't ever loaded pictures onto my phone from my computer, always just captured them from the phone. As far as I can remember I have had the problem ever since the update.

MicroSd USB adapters can be found at many stores, including Walmart, Target, Radio Shack.

Here's a cheap one: Amazon.com: Sandisk MobileMate Micro SD & M2 Reader (SDDR-121, Bulk Package): Electronics

I suggested using the computer since I'm a computer-oriented guy and you have more options, and can easily back up all files. I sure most of you aren't interested in a factory reset, which restore your phone to the way you received it, void of apps and settings.

I use gallery3D instead of the gallery that came with the phone. I suggest giving that a try if you're still having trouble. So far I haven't had problems like you've described. But then again I don't take alot of pictures or videos. I believe you can find the gallery3D apk in xda forums.

Seems like a lot of complaints about it in the Comments. It replaces the stock Gallery completely? And a lot of people say it's slow? Uninstall problems?

Yeah I was reading that too so I'm a little afraid to download it. That and I'm sick of having to download 3rd party apps to get my phone to work the way it is suppose to lol

I get the same issue if I take a pic then go home and to to the gallery later, pic is not always there. I have lost some pics this way. I found to keep from losing them I have to take the pic with the camera then go the gallery from the camera to make sure it saved the pic. Really annoying! I take a lot of pics.
Also my camera keeps crashing. Has anyone had this problem or know of app that works better than the pre-installed camera?

Are you using the stock Music player? It's a known bug that not only creates problems with the media player audio formats but also cascades into problems with photos and videos. The solution? Download a 3rd party media player from the market, reboot and then NEVER open the stock Music player...or the problem begins anew.

Are you talking about the music player not recognizing the formats like MP3? That happens regardless of the music app. I've tried 3, no luck.

Exactly. The key is....reboot...then never use the stock Music app. I can't comment on '3', but I have used PlayerPro and never had an issue since stumbling on this 'solution'. Anyway, apparently the DX update is 'days' away (having already rolled out to test users) so the problem should be resolved shortly.

I used Mixzing once. Had the error, downloaded Mixzing, restarted and had the issue again. After I wiped my cache several times the stock music player has been working fine.

Unfortunately the 2.2.1 update did not fix the gallery issue for me. I've even formatted the SD card and have done a factory reset after the update. I should have tried a factory reset BEFORe the update, maybe that would have helped I don't know. This is clearly a bug that is not going to go away for me. I've done multiple factory resets, changed the way I open the gallery, and basically every different combination of resets, reboots, data clears, etc.

I am curious about something though. What kind of computer do you guys that are having this gallery issue have? I have an apple imac. I ask because after doing a factory reset, I used my camera and gallery all day without issue. I plugged my phone into my computer to transfer some music to my phone, and the first picture I took after connecting to my computer made the thumbnail go missing in the gallery for "camera Roll' again, and now it does it every single time.

i can no longer open my gallery at all, even after numerous reboots and a battery pull. this happened shortly after the update. however, i also installed Vignette about that time, also.

i can still see my photos in the file structure, so i know the sd card is working. however, since gallery won't open, i can't change my wallpaper, which is annoying.

not sure how to fix this.
