Root Need MAJOR Help with Rooting Ally!!

Hey guys!

I'm new to this site - account wise - and was looking for some help with rooting my Ally.

I use my phone like it's my baby (my friends could vouch for me when I say this). I love this thing more than my life, and I'm looking for some help to root it. I've read a lot of forum topics about "unleashing" the power of the Ally.. and I wanna do that! Problem is, I don't want to brick my cell. I'm a student in High School and can't afford to screw up the rooting process, so that's why I'm taking the time to ask for some help. I'm not super tech savy, but I am smart enough to follow directions and such. I guess I'm looking for something that is CLOSE to a "almost" 100% safe way to root my phone.

I've done all the customizing with the free apps from the Market, but I want to also be able to delete this dumb apps that Verizon is forcing us to download. For example, Skype, My Verizon, Amazon etc. It's just taking up too much space on my phone, and I want that data for something that I could ACTUALLY use. I mean, the Ally is no iPhone (WHICH I really want to come to Verizon Wireless). But, I'm trying to make this phone MY phone. Not just a normal, every-day phone.

Also, any type of topics that anyone could supply me to help understand some things would be awesome!! I'm not really sure where to look, and some of the stickies aren't what I'm necessarily looking for. So, if anyone could post links and such, that'd be awesome.

Please don't think I'm just trying to take the easy way out and not look up my information. I'm just looking for reliable information. I really appreciate any help anyone is willing to give. It means a lot to me, because I could really need the help!!

Use z4root, it's pretty painless. Just install app, open, press root. voila

the .apk is at the bottom of the first post, but you have to make a free account to download it. after downloaded, move the .apk to your sd card then to install it use astro file manager (on the market)

I do belive you remove bloatware aka verizons shit apps with titanium backup which is available in the market. And welcome to the community

Thanks for the Welcome! I've stumbled upon this website a few months back, but I guess I waited until I had a question to create an account here. And I have seen Titanium Backup on the Market/read very minimal about it.

RootExplorer works with a rooted LG Ally to uninstall stock apps.

Deleting some apps can cause your phone to not work properly.

For as little information I stumbled upon, I read this sticky. I've just had enough of my phone automatically opening Skype, Backup Manager etc; I'm in a high school where they have some sort of device/wall paint that messes with our service. It's not only students with Verizon -- I've checked. But because of this, it drains my battery to constantly look for a tower. I hate it. I'm looking forward to rooting my phone.

All input is greatly appreciated; I'm hoping for all the help I can get..! (;

Rooting your phone won't help the fact that searching for service takes a lot of battery.

You're going to have to go into airplane mode at school.

So, guessing that xbrad75 had moving apps to the SD in mind, I am wondering what the next step is in order to move apps to my SD card. I have used Z4Root as recommended above (beware, Z4Root itself is over 14MB! I had to uninstall some other apps to get it to work since I was getting out of memory messages) and I have apparently been successful in running it. But now what?

I don't see any "super-user" icon as I have read happens when doing some of the rooting processes. And also I cannot find "Apps2SD" anywhere to download it. I did find some info sites saying they changed its name to something else and that it is "no longer supported", whatever that is going to mean.

So how do I move some of these apps to the SD card, which is the only reason that I wanted to root in the first place? Is there a way which is as easy as running Z4Root?
