Stumbled across this link a few minutes ago which suggested Froyo is available in Aus via Keys.

How to update your Galaxy S with Android 2.2

I've got a Stock SGS unlocked but originally Optus branded (I'm actually with 3)

Just started up Kies and connected up the phone. It says I can upgrade the firmware - as opposed from every other time in the last 3 months when it said I was already on the latest version - so I'm doing it right now.

Will post back to confirm whether I have Froyo or a brick.

Well....that was pretty painless.

The whole thing took about 10 mins including downloading the update. A complete "hands off" experience which was perfect for a newbie like me but might disappoint those who like getting stuck into things. (then again, you probably already rooted your phone and got froyo months ago!)

During the upgrade, it popped up a few screens, rebooted itself, stayed on the "S" splash screen for a little longer than I liked which caused me to think I did indeed end up with a brick, but then got over itself and completed it's normal start up.

All contacts, apps and high scores from various downloaded games all still there. I just need to re-arrange my apps again as it has put back up the "Optus" icons on the home screen and move all mine back into the apps folder.

A bit laggy at the start so I just switched it off and on again and it seems to be back to it's normal speed.

For those of you interested in numbers it's Build number: FROYO.DTJP5 and baseband version DTJP3.

So that's it. Froyo installed by probably the least tech savvy person on this forum.

I tried the above, but no joy.

I have a SGS from Optus that I got about 4 months ago, first time Kies ran I was told to update the firmware. It is now sitting at 2.1-update1 and it won't upgrade to 2.2 :(

Anybody got any other suggestions?

I'd suggest Un-installing & re-installing Kies. But I'm tech-spazzy so this suggestion is coming from a place of sheer ingnorance (but also sheer bliss!)

you need the latest Kies to upgrade. make sure you've upgraded to ver 1.5.3.1013_102. it won't work on a previous version. Btw, after upgrading Kies, make sure you reboot your PC.

Tried that too...:(

Starting get annoyed by the fact Samsung won't release 2.2 non-stock upgrades.

WooHoo!!! I have Froyo :D

Okay long story short, after multiple restarts, switching phones off/on etc. I decided I would uninstall/reinstall Kies (for like the 6th time). Here is what happened......

1) Uninstalled Kies, rebooted
2) Download Kies, update to latest version
3) Rebooted PC
4) Attempted to apply registry fix as per APC mag suggestion
5) Registry fix threw error saying phone need to be connected to Kies first
6) Connected phone to Kies and behold a message popped up saying updates available for my phone!!!
7) WTF, I thought, could this be true??!!!
8) YES, upgrade complete!!!!
9) Updated the wifes phone too!!!!

I am liking 2.2 so far, although, ATK and Lookout don't seem to work as well as they did under 2.1.
