Hi, I'm Mal from Australia.
Just got my 1st smartphone, an HTC Desire HD and I'm on a bit of a learning curve. I don't really *need* a smartphone but I had the chance to get this 'un on a plan for what I was paying for my prepaid "normal" phone so I thought I'd try one.
My initial thoughts are pretty well what most folks seem to have (negatives first): short battery charge retention, although it's improving and I can get through a day fairly easily by turning the usual suspects off, and what seems (to me) an abnormally quiet speaker. Volume is more than adequate through 'phones, though.
But I love the big screen and the fairly decent camera and camcorder. And I'm slowly getting over the "install every available useless app on Android Market" phase (c'mon, admit it; most of you went through this).
Now I've just gotta sort out the GPS - time to hit google...
