Silly question while I wait for Froyo

It's the Fascinate....not necessarily the "Droid" software. Incredibles don't have this problem...nor does the Eris. Spent some time on the phone with Verizon tech support on this issue last night. She finally dug up somewhere that the Fascinate does not support "enhanced" messaging. Kinda ticked me off that we paid so much money for this phone and it's not on the phone. It's a SMARTPHONE for crying out loud!!!!!

aside from when someone replies with a symbol only, I have no idea what the response was, feel kinda silly replying back "uh, my nice phone I was bragging about, it don't know what you are saying" :p

i was just saying that ive noticed the "enhanced message" thing from texts before, but it doesnt bother me that it does that.

IS THAT A GOOD ENOUGH ANSWER FOR YOU?

Is this the same reason why text messages I receive are always broken into multiples with less text than my carrier breaks the message at? What I'm asking is, if my carrier breaks messages at 160 characters, but someone puts a smiley into an 80 character message, is that why I'm getting "smaller" broken messages than my carrier's 160 limitation?

This really DOES suck.

I just got my Fascinate a couple weeks ago. But I don't recall ever having an issue with smileys in txt/sms messages. In fact when I am typing a text message I can hit the menu button and there is an "Insert smiley" option when I select that it gives me a list of smiley faces to select from.

Or perhaps I just read the posts wrong and I missed something?

Hey!

It was actually an issue with recieving texts with "enhanced SMS" symbols in them, like preloaded smileys on stock non smartphones etc.

I have used the insert smiley, and in fact if you want something pretty cool download the handcent ap and use some of the handcent greetings, some are pretty cool, they send an animated MMS
