New PRL as of December 3

I've seen threads like these in the past and have read about PRL's and it has to do with roaming, correct? I still can't figure out what, if any, are the advantages of switching your PRL? Could someone who's knows fill me in? Thanks

as I understand it, in nutshell, updates new towers/trans sites.
For example old tower 2 miles away, new tower 1 mile away, without prl update phone will search for and use the old tower as primary site. That can cost you battery life. PRL update should give you best/shortest/strongest route for your traffic. So in theory up to date PRL should give you best signal and battery life.
If you want more tech details just search the forums. In the past I have read several from knowledgeable people in the forums.

they arent really a big deal. I dont know some people obsess over them. Like stated its just the tower info basically but it usually doesnt change drastically. if a good thing to do if you are having bad reception issues somewhere. I typically do it on the first of every month or if i catch a post about them being updated

I also try to do it when I'm on a road trip to make sure that I'm getting the best reception possibly. Can make a huge difference sometimes when you're out in the middle of nowhere.

Yup I agree, also since VZ is updating all their towers for 4G they have to make the 3G perfect first... thus the PRL updates are kind of more important

Yes their was a lot of talk about this when device was new. Wish i could find some of those threads now. So would it make sense to do this at home AND at work?? (very bad signal at work) Anyone know?
Done. Mine was back one level.
So it informs you if it actually updates anything?

Does anyone know where I can find out if 3G has been expanded in northern NJ? I rarely had a 3G signal in my home and suddenly today it has been consistently 3G. Didn't update the PRL either.

hmm i know there is a carrier coverage app supposed to be hitting market tuesday that staff and premium members are beta testing right now;)

Sounds like you should search the market on tuesday for 'carrier coverage'

Other than that i would suppose checking Big V's site would get the answer

Try it. You'll see. A little dialog box pops up after dialing the PRL phone number. It tells about PRL list being unlocked, and toward the end it gives several status messages in quick succession, then the phone says its going to reboot.

You can check the level on Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information, scroll down to PRL. Do that first before you dial the number to see the difference.

Mine now says: 52169
