Hi Guys,

The Camera on my Desire is knackered and I have arranged for a new handset to be delivered tomorrow. That's all good however I need to back up my contacts and settings and have gotten myself into a bit of a pickle.
How do I do it?

I'd like to get my new phone, put the sim and SD in and it just work like my old one or am I dreaming? lol :D

Judging from your profile, you are Orange Branded, so not rooted? You can do so much, and this is just a small list of things to back up:

- Contacts to SD Card and Contacts synced with Google (better to back up more than once!)
- Back up Apps to SD Card using Astro File Manager (in the Menu and Tools)
- Sync with AppBrain as well, will save a list of your Apps on your phone, on their website.
- A back up SMS app (a few on the market, can't recommend any sorry, as never used any myself)
- Move everything Music, Pictures, etc etc etc to your SD Card

Without a root, you wont have access to certain things, but you can do most of what you need.

SMS Backup+ is good. It backs up your texts onto your GMail account. Then you can not only restore them when you get the new phone (provided that you set it up with the same GMail account), you can also download them to your PC with your mail program if you want.

+ 1 for SMS Backup + as it stores MMS and call logs as well, although I haven't personally tried a restore.

But yes, be sure to check on your Google account that you have synced all your contacts.
