Root How do I Flash a .ZIP File?

I have no idea what this means...can someone walk me through it?

If this isn't what you were looking for you will need to be more specific. What are you looking at that is asking you to flash a .zip?

Assuming you have your phone rooted and have either ClockworkMOD recovery or SPR Recovery installed.

The first step is always have a nandroid backup.

I WOULD NOT FLASH ANYTHING WITHOUT A FUNCTIONAL BACKUP.

ClockworkMOD Recovery
1. Place zip file somewhere on SD Card. I use the root directory.
2. Boot your phone into recovery by holding down "X" while powering the phone on.
3. Choose Install .zip from SD Card.
4. Browse to file using the directional pad and select it.
5. Choose Yes.
6. Use the Power button to go back to the main menu and select reboot.

I am not sure about SPR because I havent used it but I would assume the steps are similar

in recovery, try the option "install zip from SD card" and then navigate to that zip file, select it, let it install, reboot.

"install zip from SD card" is another method of installing files not named update.zip but could certainly be used to install an update.zip file.

are you sure you did not name it update.zip.zip accidentally - that happens

In that case are you rooted?

boy I sure hope so.. he does say "When I boot to recovery" and he is in the root forum and all the keyboard threads make it clear you have to be rooted to apply this - so I think he is. If Recovery is not seeing the update.zip I think it might be a naming of file issue which many people do accidentally.

But like I said above, he should be able to install it via the "install zip from SD card" option. If he still cannot navigate to it and find it and install it via that, then the OP is making some other error as that method does not care what the name of the zip file is so should see it.

your not in clockworkmod

I assume you have ROM Manager installed? Go into ROM manager and select at the bottom Flash Alternate Recovery, once that is done, go back and at the top select Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and reinstall it (should be 2.5.0.1 version when done), once that is done select Reboot Into Recovery....

This is what clockworkmod Recovery screen looks like and you can see the options

Wrong. Clockwork Mod Recovery can flash .ZIPs regardless of name - you just have to select the correct option in CMRecovery to do so.

If you pick the one that says Apply update.zip then it will need to be named update.zip.

If you pick the option that says something like Apply .ZIP then you navigate to wherever you have it stored and select it.
