New Swype Version Now Availalbe

I just downloaded the installer, and managed to find the page to register. I did all that, and then activated my account by responding to an email. Then when I tried to log in on the installer on my phone, it said it was closed. But I'm already registered, so I'm kind of confused.
Here are detailed step-by-step directions:

Notice this part at the top:
ATTENTION
If you are upgrading from any version released prior to the November 2010 update:

You must uninstall both Swype AND SwypeInstaller from your device before upgrading!

Swype hasn't been working for me...something about the device is associated with another account and another time saying my registration ID doesn't match. This has been since the 2.2 update on my Incredible. I submitted a ticket to reset my ESN and still nothing back...I've been at them since Sept when the update came and Swype stopped working

I've had that issue before and I just rebooted the phone and it worked. Don't have a clue what causes it.

may i ask why this is still in beta after months?

Because they're main business is selling to OEMs, and releasing a market app would greatly undermine that.

The last version was buggy as crap, so I'd say they should still be in beta.

But if your point is why haven't they been able to fix it, well that's a different matter.

BECAUSE it's a beta, they can be more experimental and put more effort into pushing functionality. And they have a stable development line (the one they sell to OEMs), it's just not publicly available. The beta is where they can tinker.

How does this swype beta thing work? I have a Droid X with swype preinstalled. Is my version the full version? I dont understand

Basically Swype has 2 different versions. The experimental Beta version, which since they aren't charging users for, and the factory version (actually a few factory versions, depending on when/if the phone manufacturer has been distributing updates).

The experimental version lets them play with new features/etc, without constantly making it stable enough to sell.

The Factory versions lag significantly behind the BETA, but is FAR more stable.

Really, it's not a matter of full version or not. It's just that the swype on your phone went through a lot more editing to make sure it was stable enough.

I just got my Swype Beta activated today.. I signed up for the beta 6 MONTHS ago!!

"You signed up to be emailed when this happened, and probably gave up on us. Well, we are (finally) pleased to activate your Swype Beta for Android account. Thanks for being patient over the last 6 months as we’ve been focused on improving the product and preparing for our launch with multiple phone manufacturers and carriers."
